People forget that the original worked because - with the exception of Ernie Hudson - all the actors had experience working together at Second City and on SNL. It was that chemistry among old friends that created movie magic. If they're going all-female, they need to take that approach.

I just don't see why they have to do all girls? A blend would be just fine, but honestly this just seems contrived and forced. This isn't the best option IMO.

I agree with you Spock. A blend of the sexes would be a much better casting choice. Now it just seems like the studio wants to jump at a quick cash grab while the newest flavor of the month, as it were, is still hot.

I could see the all female thing working if it existed in the same universe. I could see Venkman deciding to start a new franchise in a different city. And he would push it to be all women because he's a womanizer and because of the potential promotion of the new crew. I like the idea of taking ideas from current horror movies...maybe even zombies. But with no Egon, it just doesn't seem right. I'm not a big fan of reboots, though, so I don't see much potential interest from me if that's how they decide to run with it.

Thanks to the Sony hack, we know who Sony has met for parts in the Ghostbusters reboot. And they are Ryan Gosling (who had an actual meeting), Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone.

UPDATE:
As expected, Melissa McCarthy is in talks to be the main star. McCarthy and director Paul Feig worked together on Bridesmaids, The Heat and an upcoming movie titled, Spy. Plans are to begin production in June, during McCarthy's hiatus from Mike & Molly. HOWEVER... since this will no doubt be a big visual effects movie, there's concerns that scheduling may not work. That leads us to... EMMA STONE. She's an unofficial castmember at the moment. All she needs to do is sign on the dotted line after her current stint on Broadway is complete. If things don't work out with McCarthy, Stone is the star. I think that makes a lot more sense. Jillian Bell, from Workaholics and 22 Jump Street, and Cecily Strong, from SNL, are in talks to co-star.

Stone can make it work, McCarthy is a one-trick pony that was funny in "Bridesmaids" and nothing else. Her latest crap films "Identity Thief" and "Tammy" are proof of this; she's just a fat girl that they perform slapstick on. She's literally the female Kevin James. If she's the star in this, I will not see this, not even out of curiosity. This just sounds worse and worse.

I liked the earlier reports of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. They had great screen chemistry in their other movies.

Yeah... That's true... I'm not saying he can't pull it off, but I'd probably need to see him in action. I think it's his roles in "Drive" and "Only God Forgives" that's making it hard to see him being funny.
