13. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier 12. Star Trek: Insurrection 11. Star Trek: Nemesis 10. Star Trek: Generations 9. Star Trek: The Motion Picture 8. Star Trek Beyond 7. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock 6. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Well. Here it is...
5. Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
Part of me was worried that after having completed all of the pre-Abrams Trek films, Star Trek Into Darkness wouldn't hold up as well. Fortunately, though, I still like it just as much as I always have. Look, it's not like I'm blind to the complaints, but this movie works for me as a thrilling sci-fi action adventure movie. Say what you will about how "JJ Abrams doesn't get Star Trek" or whatnot -- the dude still put together an exciting, fun movie here regardless, one that hasn't lost its appeal for me, personally. Yes, the story is simplistic. Yes, the movie is a rip-off/shameless unofficial remake of The Wrath of Khan, etc. But you know what? I'm perfectly okay with that, cause the execution makes it all forgivable. The charm and chemistry of this reboot cast more than remains intact, which in turn retains the personality from the 2009 movie, Benedict Cumberbatch is so icily suave and cool as John Harriso -- I mean, Khan -- Michael Giacchino's score is head-bobbingly good and the action sequences are great. So sue me, Star Trek Into Darkness still works for me. A lot.

To paraphrase Red Letter Media, nothing says Star Trek quite like Spock violently punching someone in the face emotionally while screaming "I'm gonna murder you, you cocksucker".
At least you didn't put it above Khan or Undiscovered Country.

thebtskink and I have been prepared to deal with this for some time by highjavking this thread and turning it into our Sliders hatewatch party thread. Speaking of, skink, I have all of Sliders on my Vudu. I could literally drop everything right now and get started.

I watched the pilot part 2 last week and realized how much Twitter would hate that right off the bat they go after "what if the USSR had won the Cold War?" I read a review once of the women in power episode, The Weaker Sex, and he was up in arms about how sexist it was, and I'm like "That was...kind of the point." A lot of 90's crap wouldn't fly today. Just look at the Next Gen episode where Dr. Crusher dated a Trill and his symbiote's next host was a woman, and she suddenly didn't want to date her, which was deemed "homophobic." I'd be like, guys, just because she doesn't want to eat pussy doesn't make her homophobic. It makes her straight.

Dean Caine's already been cancelled. hahaha Have you watched the Superboy show? Laughable first season aside, the series was pretty interesting and they almost cast Gerard Christopher in Lois & Clark.

I've been meaning to get the WA DVDs to check out the rest of that syndicated hot mess, but never put down the money. I found it pretty funny from what I've seen.

I've seen the first season, but not the rest. I found it pretty funny from what I've seen. The first season is hilariously bad. Seasons 2-4 are what you'd expect from a Tim Burton era Superman show. If you've seen the 1990 Flash show, Superboy is similar in tone.

it turned around THAT much? By season 4, yeah. Each season was progressively "darker".

Full disclosure: About a decade ago I went through a huge Superman binge (this was a few years after Returns but long before Man of Steel) and I consumed a lot of Superman media in the span of about two or three months. Not just Chris Reeves movies, but stuff I had seen before like Adventures of Superman, the Bruce Timm animated series, and the old serials. It was during this period that I first properly watched Lois & Clark, which I remember enjoying a lot, and I watched the first season of Superboy because that was the only season available at the time and I got it for about eight bucks.
This all concluded with a massive seven season (it was as far as they were at the time) binge on Smallville, which I regret to this day. Mostly regret because I thought Allison Mack was super cute and I said to myself "I'd totally be Chloe's sex slave." At the time I didn't know what that would entail, but now I'm like yikes.

She was adorable in those early seasons, as was Kristen Kreuk. Erica Durance was the main attraction from season 4 onwards. But we'll always have this:

Remember in Into Darkness when they invented a device that makes starships obsolete? Remember in Into Darkness when they demoted Kirk then restored his rank two scenes later? I always saw that as Marcus only doing so in order to use Kirk as a scapegoat to start the war with the Klingons Marcus wanted in the first place. He figured he could use Kirk's bloodlust over Pike's death to his advantage without getting his own hands dirty, and the only way to do it was to reinstate Kirk as Captain. Once Kirk decided not to torpedo Khan/Kronos, it fucked up Marcus's plan and he had to intervene.
Makes perfect sense to me.

Makes perfect sense to me. The storyline didn't need to demote him in the first place. It's an incomplete idea in a pile of incomplete ideas.
