George Lucas never knew what he had. He knows now! For the first time, I want Special Editions.

It's now being reported that Jake Lloyd was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 19 and stopped taking his medication earlier this year. Guess it beats going to rehab.

According to Ron Howard, he, Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg were offered to direct the Star Wars prequels and they all turned it down. blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/ron-howard-robert-zemeckis-steven-spielberg-all-turned-down-directing-the-star-wars-prequels-20151125That isn't entirely true. Spielberg was supposed to direct Return of the Jedi, but the DGA vetoed it after feuding with Lucas. And he did ask Lucas to direct the prequels but Lucas said no because Spielberg was just being greedy - he already had the Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park franchise. But Spielberg bugged him enough that Lucas allowed him to direct the volcano fight in Revenge of the Sith.

It's a neat theory and might even be true, but I don't think it makes Jar Jar any less terrible. He's still an annoying character and I don't think watching him and Yoda duke it out would have been any better than Yoda and Dooku fighting. It might even be worse.

That was a silly/crazy read. He's comparing selling Star Wars to getting a divorce, and watching the new Star Wars is like going to a wedding of his now ex-wife. Fair enough. It's all very bitter sounding. I probably would have been a bigger man and said that selling Star Wars was like letting your child go off into the world now that they're of age. That seeing the new Star Wars is like seeing your grandchild.

Can I bitch about the prequels for a moment?
Not the film-making aspects, because they have their own problems, but from a Star Wars fan perspective. I'm coming very close to jettisoning the prequels as a legitimate part of the story for me. They just did so many tihngs wrong. But most of what is wrong links to the demystification of the Force and the Jedi.
Medichlorians - I've bitched about them many times, so I'll just state it again briefly. Giving a natural cause for "The Force" really takes away from the power of it. Think about that speech Yoda gave in Empire. The power of that has been stripped away by basically saying its a strain of bacteria.
Bureaucratic Jedi Council - I really dont like that the Jedi order is basically an organization. It has a democratic council, it has a library, a ridiculously lame training system for children.... all of it flies in the face of the Jedi image hinted at in the original films. Think about old Ben Kenobi. He was a lone wolf, a samurai wandering alone, fighting for justice in his own way. Thats what Jedi should be. Not some strict organization with rules and regulations, they should be like Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, going where they are needed.
Yoda - When I saw Attack of the Closnes, I thought that Yoda fighting was cool. It was. but lets face it, thats not Yoda. He's a sage who should be above two laser swords hitting each other.
Jedi Die Real Easy - Wow, do they ever. Looks at the arena battle. Or Order 66. Jedi suck. These are the mythical warriors of the past?

Jibbs Frizzo the Clown Doomsday Dracula PG Cooper SnoBorderZero thebtskink Deexan Wyldstaar For shits and giggles, here are the first 5 IMDb user reviews posted for The Phantom Menace back on May 19, 1999. Non-stop high-energy old-fashioned FUN!Everyone, *ignore* the whiny negative advance reviews and go see this movie! It is such an exhilarating rush it literally left me breathless. Dense political machinations balanced out by stunning visual beauty, a touch of comedy and some of the greatest science-fiction action sequences ever. Already being a SW fan will help you appreciate much of the plot-establishing material (and a lot of the dialogue), but I think ANY movie fan can enjoy it for its astonishing visuals, its exciting battle and race scenes, the calm and clever bravery of Queen Amidala and the touching scenes between young Anakin and the mother he has to leave behind. (I know this will be one of 1000 reviews - can't wait to read the rest!). play the role. whatever.the critics are kinda right in there perspective. although, they're always looking for the utopian/anti-utopian world of they're own self-absorbed dreams. and they're always trying to be the world's intellectual filmic frontmen and women.... i don't blame them. episode one is indeed cold in the space of a deeper character development. and it's got a lot of annoying creature camp. but the movie plays a role in a far bigger picture, than some pathetic film critic's wishes for deep thought. it's a definite must-see. but then so are films like the italian recent "life is beautiful". or i dunno.. "shakespeare in love". we are a playful species, however. us americans. we are the world's most powerful warriors, collective. and we should like to believe we belong to some higher order or priority or cause for our actions. we want to believe we are as powerful and benevolent as jedi. no? so whom shall the critics criticize? americans? critics themselves? hmm? watch the movie. but know there's a lot more out there than what you think is worthwhile, people.... ^ this one is hilarious Good, clean action-packed fun!If you're looking for deep philosophical meaning, see an old Bergman or a Fellini film. However, if you want a good, old-fashioned, Saturday-morning serial with thrills, chills, spills, and a galaxy of interesting and entertaining creatures, see the Phantom Menace. The Star Wars saga was, is, and I hope always will be comic book science fiction rendered with state-of the-art cinematic technology. Congratulations, George, on bringing us another wonderful installment in the trilogy of trilogies. Make the jump to light speed, and bring on Episode II. Great special effects and setup for storyPhantom Menace is the perfect setup for the story we know is coming in chapters four through six. All the cues are there, from the hints in the dialogue to the camera angles used to the music score. It's all there. Also, the special effects are stunning, as expected. Lucas uses the computer animations to deliver humor, and not just from Jar Jar. Also, Lucas replaced his Kill-A-Plenty stormtroopers with robots that have about as much armor and life span as the original white-armored vict...errr, extras. His planets are gorgeous, esp. his representation of the capital planet. The one thing that many people may not like about Phantom Menace is that it lacks the sense of urgency and overwhelming fear that Star Wars had in such abundance. One of the reasons I think people feel this way is a lack of a definite "bad guy". There's Darth Sithious, and Darth Maul, and the Trade Federation, but none of them act as a central "bad guy"--instead, they share the role, and none of them get effective treatment. Also, the fight scene with Darth Maul lacked conviction. Maul was much more a "hammer"--something just to deliver a blow rather than to really be a fully developed "bad guy". The whole ending seemed to be a bit lightweight, as if people are waiting for something to happen(as we know it will, since this is a prequel). I don't think it was worth camping out for(and I didn't), but it was worth the hour and a half wait in line for decent seats. The nay-sayers may now eat their words...With the weeks and days before the first episode of the Sat Wars saga was released, many critics who attained a preview of the prequel tore into the movie, claimed that it was a completely terrible flim and not worth the hype that it was given by fans. As the summary line states...it is. After seeing the movie the first day that it was out, I can firmly say that the cridits who did not like it must have seen a different movie than I did. The Phantom Menance is a wonderful film in and of itself. The acting and story is always interesting and, at the very least, very good. The special effects are back on the screen as everyone expected. In short, this film is perhaps one of the best in the series, if not one of the most enjoyable films I have seen this year. ^ this one was written before spell check was invented.

A little mashup of Neverending 's Nostalgia Critic vs. my preferred Mr. Plinkett. Yeah, I saw that a month ago. I think they're both right. The movies are bad, but they're not THAT bad. There are elements that worked, but most didn't.
