I don't get how Sony can't figure out that movie making is about the artists not the producers or business interests. And how many losses can they take before they understand this?

It's true what a lot of critics have echoed that everything about this feels like a crappy superhero movie from 2004 that has learned nothing from the last decade of superior movies. Even that poster above looks like a crappy mid-2000s effort. Why you keep shitting on 2000’s superhero movies? I'm more referring to the shitty ones we got then, like Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Catwoman, The Hulk, etc. Venom feels like it falls in line entirely with those, from the crappy humor, generic storyline, and awkward balancing of tone. It looks like a movie that's ignored what's gone on in the genre over the last decade and feels entirely out of place.

They keep hiring generic directors to make generic films because they largely don't want to shell out for signature directors (Tarantino is an anomaly with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). They've actually had some decent IPs to work with, from Spider-Man to The Dark Tower to James Bond, and have fumbled all of them (in regards to Bond not so much the films themselves but losing one of the few money makers they had). Will they learn their lesson from Venom? It's highly doubtful. Sony needs a regime change badly. They just look absolutely clueless.

You mean, comic book movies made by people who have a fundamental lack of understanding about comic books?

Snyder freely admitted in an interview back when he was making Watchmen that he didn't like traditional superheroes like Superman and Batman.

Many of those 2000 movies had salvgable parts. Daredevil and Fantastic Four for instance, but they're not really memorable.
Damned if Michael Clarke Duncan, Colin Farrell, Chria Evan's, and Michael Chiklis weren't FUN in those roles.

Rorschach is a mash-up of The Question and Mr. A, both creations of Steve Ditko. He's got the look of The Question, and the philosophy of Mr. A. As for Snyder, one of his criticisms was that they never killed anyone. Snyder's version of Batman behaves a great deal like Mr. A, although I suspect Snyder's never heard of the character. He just wanted Batman to be extreme.
