As a person who has seen every episode of 24, meh. Sutherland is what makes the show watchable even as it teetered on highly repetitive in later seasons. The Live Another Day was fun and it benefited from being only 12 episodes. We'll see, but if this is going to work they're going to need to shake up the formula a bit.

Hopefully, with new characters, they DO shake up the formula a bit. But I'm not expecting it to be a complete reinvention.

I'm with Sno. No interest if no Kiefer. Also the show ends with Bauer getting captured by Russians. They're just going to leave it there? Offer Sutherland $30 million and get him back for another miniseries.

Yeah, good point. We aren't gonna get the Bauer vs. Putin showdown they set up? They are seriously missing out. Doomsday, we should write it now that Rocky is going in another direction and we won't be able to option that screenplay.

If there's no Bauer, I'll only watch it if they make the cougar the main character.

Doomsday SnoBorderZero DraculaCorey Hawkins, who played Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton, has been cast as the lead in 24: Legacy. He'll play Eric Carter - not to be confused with Aaron Cross from The Bourne Legacy.

Hmmm, we'll see. Appears to be a generic rehash, but hopefully they've got more up their sleeve. I'll definitely watch.

24 is the closest thing Fox has to a CBS show. Safe. Formula driven. Built-in audience. I shouldn't watch it but I'm too invested at this point.

This show's xenophobia is getting increasingly hard to ignore in this climate.

This show's xenophobia is getting increasingly hard to ignore in this climate. It's only the 2nd episode and they have Black Jack Bauer get pulled over by the police. I think they expected a different climate when making the show.

I don't think I'd ever call what they've had on this show as xenophobia.

Well over the years they have made a habit of putting half-hearted #NotAllMuslims bits into their repeated storylines about evil muslims out to kill all Americans who must be stopped at all costs, but it's kind of starting to ring hollow.

It's a drama about terrorism and espionage.
What would be an acceptable way for them to portray an antagonist?
Not directed towards you, but I've heard this same comment online, etc. about Homeland, Zero Dark Thirty, Lone Survivor. I'm baffled.

Not directed towards you, but I've heard this same comment online, etc. about Homeland, Zero Dark Thirty, Lone Survivor. I'm baffled. Short answer: maybe they just shouldn't be using middle eastern terrorists as the villains in ridiculous shows that pit good against evil. Something that's actually realistic like Zero Dark Thirty is different, and I guess something like Lone Survivor is different too (though that movie is also problematic for slightly different reasons). There are ways to do this stuff right, but those ways tend to involve realism and insight, which are two things that 24 is pretty much designed to avoid. I don't want to sound like a total PC scold and 95% of the time I tend not to be all that convinced by the notion that TV shows really affect public opinion but when I see all those people getting their lives disrupted at the airports and I see these insanely paranoid and misinformed opinion polls about it I can't help but feel like it's a little dangerous to be casually vilifying populations like this.

In all seriousness: thanks.
I'm not sure I agree with all of this but the fact that you were willing to engage and discuss without assumption gives me hope in modern internet discourse.
I can see where you're coming from, and on a show like this where the villains can range to downright cartoonish a portayal of that in this political climate can be disrespectful and dangerous.

To be fair to 24, this was in production way before Trump was even close to being in office. Also a majority of 24 seasons don't feature middle eastern terrorists as the main villains, they've had everyone from the cartels to Russians to the Chinese to the President of the United States.
