Question for those of you who are 25 to 30. Is this the cheapest gas prices have been since we started driving? Prices over here are $1.99 per gallon. I honest don't remember ever seeing less than $2 per gallon. Regardless, it feels nice to spend so little. Remember 5 years ago when prices were $4 per gallon? That was a nightmare.

It actually hit $1.99 here in Southern California for about a second earlier this year, and our gas is usually a little bit more higher than the rest of the country due to the changing of the blends every season. Last time it was that low was around 2005 I think?

In 2008 it got really low once the economy went to shit. That was the last time it has been this low...but it's just now creeping back up again.

In 2008 it got really low once the economy went to shit. That was the last time it has been this low...but it's just now creeping back up again. I remember the opposite, in particular, during the summer, prices were ridiculous. I think they were like $3. |

No, not for us anyway. This was from a year ago: Gas just dropped below $2.00 here. I can't quite recall the last time it was this low here. The reserve maybe? A long time either way.  And back before then, I believe it had gotten down to the $1.90 range in my early twenties (the time I was referring to in my post). It has gotten pretty low, though. At the moment I think the lowest we've seen around here has been $1.65, with the average being $1.85. So about the same as December last year. |

I remember when it was less than a dollar, and I remember traveling to Florida with my family as the prices went up and up. There was a big gas shortage and people lining up down the block when they found out that a station got gas. Supply and demand is weird when it takes a huge swing like that. It's gotten to around $1.78 around here. Pretty good. I drive a fairly fuel efficient Toyota so it doesn't make a huge difference to me, but it's certainly nice. Thank you Saudi Arabia!

On average it's been $1.85 here recently, but last time I filled up I had $0.35 cents off per gallon from my grocery store reward points, so it was cheaper than that.
I feel like I do a lot less driving now that I can walk to my parents' house and my brother's house, so even when I'm averaging as little as 19MPG I can make a tank last over a week.
To answer your original question, gas was definitely cheaper when I started driving, but that was also 14 years ago. I think when I turned 16 it was just barely over $1/gal

I remember it being really low somewhere around pre 9/11/2001. Like around a buck. Specifically because it coincided with the first couple months of my license, and working in an off-premise catering business.
This is pretty great though. Cheapest I've seen this week is 1.839

I start a new gig in a couple weeks, fortunately it's only 3 miles away from me so hopefully I can keep the fillups to once every 3 or 4 weeks. Still, it's absolutely insane.
