No. No. No. No. No. No. No. A case of preference, I guess. You can easily substitute Doug and Rugrats with Ren & Stimpy and Ahh! Real Monsters or Rocko's Modern Life. SnoBorderZero No and No.

The exclusion of Darkwing Duck deeply upsets me. That show fucking rules. In fact, it's always a toss-up for me between that and Batman as my favorite animated series ever.

#10 - DOUG (1991-94)Doug is about - Doug - an 11 year old who daydreams a lot and writes about his daily struggles in a journal. Despite having quirky animation, a norm for Nickelodeon, the show is very realistic and very relatable. Most North Americans should be able to emotionally connect with the characters and their adolescent adventures. #9 - ANIMANIACS (1993-98)What happens when you take Looney Tunes, add in a bit of Disney and throw in some 1990's humor? You end up with Animaniacs. The show is essentially a best of both worlds. There's enough classic and new age comedy to satisfy audiences of all ages. There was some (relatively) good stuff on that show... not sure how I would respond to most of it without the glow of nostalgia, but still, definitely a show that tried harder than it had to. #8 - THE POWERPUFF GIRLS (1998-2005)Part comedy and part action. Part girl show and part boy show. Part bad animation and part good animation. The Powerpuff Girls is a walking contradiction that manages to work on every level. When I was young my allegiances definately skewed more towards Nickelodeon and the Networks than it did towards cartoon network. This one was a bit after my time anyway. #7 - RUGRATS (1991-2004)Rugrats is a show told from the point-of-view of infants - or at least that was the case in the beginning. It isn't entirely realistic and the characters got into some ridiculous situations over the years, but the series was always imaginative and sprinkled with adult humor. Never really got why this was the flagship Nick-toon. Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, Doug, and Hey Arnold were all better. #6 - SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU! (1969-70) The original Scooby-Doo and most of its subsequent shows had a very specific formula, but what made it great was its sense-of-humor, its spooky animation and its great characters. This show was pretty stupid and I'm not really sure why it caught on. Every damn episode was exactly the same... even by cartoon standards and the shows "humor" even made me roll my eyes as a kid. #5 - DUCKTALES (1987-90)Based on the influential comic books by Carl Barks, DuckTales is a show filled with beloved characters, great humor, thrilling adventures and groundbreaking television animation. Had a good NES game. #4 - SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS (1999-PRESENT)Disney has Mickey Mouse. Warner Bros. has Bugs Bunny. Nickelodeon has SpongeBob. It might seem like blasphemy to some old-timers, but after 16 years, the yellow sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea belongs in that company of iconic cartoon characters. This is the show that told me once and for all that I was getting way too old for Nickelodeon. Seem like just the stupidest thing ever made. Later in life I realized it was being made by and for people on drugs, but as a kid it just seemed completely retarded. #3 - THE FLINTSTONES (1960-66)Love it or hate it, without The Flintstones there wouldn't be The Simpsons. And without The Simpsons there wouldn't be a whole genre of animation aimed at teenagers and adults. Although technically not a kids cartoon, The Flintstones is tame enough that it has been considered a children's cartoon for over half a century. And thanks to its sitcom style characters and storylines, the show holds up incredibly well even though the animation has been generally mocked for its crapiness. The Flintstones is an example of a cartoon that succeeds in spite of its flaws. I acknowledge this show's place in pop culture but have minimal respect for it. It as a one-joke series. #2 - AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER (2005-08)By combining the best traits of the American and Japanese animation genre, Avatar: The Last Airbender is a show with great drama, great comedy, great serialized storytelling and great episodic adventures. It also has a cast of characters that are complex enough to appeal to adults but fun enough to appeal to children. Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't simply a great cartoon. It's a great show - period. Way after my time. #1 - BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES (1992-95; 97-99)There has never been a cartoon that blurred the lines between children and adult entertainment better than Batman: The Animated Series. Yes, you can cite a few comedic cartoons and even dramatic work like Gargoyles, but none of those have psychologically complex characters, adult storytelling and sophisticated animation combined into one show. This is noteworthy because children can enjoy the show on a visceral level and later on in life, when they're adults, they can enjoy the show for its maturity. Batman: The Animated Series is in a league of its own. You definitely got the top spot right.

This show was pretty stupid and I'm not really sure why it caught on. Scooby-Doo caught on and endured because of its distinctive animation style. It monopolized that Universal Horror Movie atmosphere. I can't really think of another cartoon that did that. Even "horror" cartoons like Beetlejuice and Ahh! Real Monsters didn't go for that style. It's not like Batman which had Gargoyles ripping it off. No one tried to replicate the Scooby-Doo animation style - at least none that I can think of.

You shut your mouth! DuckTales always paled to Darkwing Duck. In what world? It looks almost identical to every other Hanna Barbara cartoon... The character design is similar to other Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the 1970's but the settings and coloring and "lighting" are very different.

Decent list. No worry about not being "girl friendly". As a kid I watched Gumby and The Super Mario Bros Show on repeat.

I too am disappointed in the lack of Darkwing Duck, that and Earthworm Jim made me rush to the TV. Loved those shows as a kid. And the original TMNT was also awesome and was what initially fostered my love for the turtles even before the first movie.
I'm honestly surprised Freakazoid didn't make your list, I always pegged Neverending for a big 'Zoid fan.

Yeah, Darkwing Duck always seems to come up as a favorite of my and SnoBorderZero's generation. Don't get me wrong, DuckTales was still really cool, but Darkwing Duck, man. To me, that perfectly encapsulates what made that era of Disney animated shows so great, and it's one that holds up for sure. And I was OBSESSED with it as a kid. So much so that, before I found out Disney made actual action figures from it and subsequently got some on eBay, my Mom bought a stuffed Donald Duck and actually stitched a complete Darkwing Duck outfit (hat, cape and all) to go on that Donald Duck, essentially making a homemade stuffed Darkwing. And I still have it to this day.

Fox Cartoons > ABC Cartoons Truth. Up until Digimon. That and Hey Arnold are the exact point that cartoons began to suck.

Dracula Deexan SnoBorderZero PG Cooper PhantomKnight FShuttari IanTheCool10 ESSENTIAL RAP SONGSStraight Outta Compton is finally in theaters. It has 86% at Rotten Tomatoes and is expected to gross $40-50 million in its opening weekend. So as some of you head out to watch the movie, you may feel like you lack knowledge about the rap genre. Never fear. Here's a quick crash course. 1. RAPPER'S DELIGHT (1979)Love it or hate it, it's the song that put rap on the musical map. 2. RAPTURE (1980)Any time you hear a pretty girl singing in a rap song, you can blame Fab 5 Freddy. 3. THE MESSAGE (1982)Arguably, the most important rap song of all-time. 4. WALK THIS WAY (1986)The moment rap music went mainstream and the song that turned Rick Reuben into a mega producer. 5. FUCK THA POLICE (1988)Arguably, the 2nd or 3rd most important rap song of all-time. 6. BIG POPPA (1994)This is what 90% of rap music sounded like in the 1990's. I could have used other examples but this list needed at least one Biggie song. 7. DEAR MAMA (1995)Obligatory Tupac song. 8. STAN (2000)Obligatory Eminem song. 9. STRONGER (2007)This is pretty much what rap music has become in the early 21st century. I could have used other examples but this list needed at least one Kanye West song. 10. SAME LOVE (2012)Rap music is notoriously homophobic and anti-women, so this song was a game changer. You won't see the effects right away. You gotta wait at least a decade or two.
