 In spite of PhantomKnight talking shit, Aladdin and his magic carpet soared to #1 this Memorial Day weekend with $112.7 million. At the other side of Disney World, Avengers: Endgame reached $800 million domestically. Worldwide, it hasn’t surpassed Avatar yet. Opening in a few days are Godzilla, Ma and Rocketman. Sounds like a great cover band. |

I lived through the box office disappointment of Star Trek Beyond, I can live through this. I've always had a gut feeling this was going to underperform ever since they pushed it to 2019 anyway. At any rate, MonsterVerse still has one in the chamber with Godzilla vs. Kong, which is already filmed and in post. Even if it's too late to revitalize the Godzilla franchise, hopefully it can keep the Kong franchise alive. My only concern is whether or not the performance of King of the Monsters will force some studio head cheese into turning Godzilla vs. Kong into a Justice League level production nightmare. |
