Come on, NE. You know as well as anyone what I can respond with.
Do you want to go down that road?

The CS! Film Club finally pays off. You're bracing yourself for the wrong movie. This is a VERY 80's movie. To Live and Die in L.A. is basically Miami Vice but set in Los Angeles and with tits... and penis. Michael Mann actually sued William Friedkin when the movie came out. Friedkin also got in trouble with the U.S. government because he made REAL counterfeit money for the movie and he showed how to make it too. That scene where Willem Dafoe is making money... that shit is real. It will also remind you of the scene in Lethal Weapon 4 where they're making the fake money. Taken 3 disagrees. Death Wish and Death Wish 3 are VERY different movies. Think of Rocky and Rocky III. Or Rambo and Rambo II. Or, really, any Sylvester Stallone movie. I love 80s movies, so I'm very up for that sleek 80s cheese. I'm looking forward to it, it'll be a fun time. That might not be the right mindset either. The movie was definitely meant to be a fairly gritty crime movie but some of the soundtrack selections and fashion sense makes it looks fairly dated in retrospect.

That might not be the right mindset either. SnoBorderZero hasn't seen Miami Vice. He didn't get my reference.

I still maintain that Jeff Goldblum's finest acting performance was Death Wish 1.

I don't get when people say this though. 'Daniel Craig movies aren't as fun' or 'they changed too much' or 'they don't adhere to formula.' Do you want to go back to Die Another Day? I want to go back to Goldeneye... Goldeneye > Skyfall Yep you beat me... but I came to say this...

In all seriousness, though, since that's what you always seem to be, Skyfall and Casino Royale are simply just more compelling dramatically and treat Bond as an actual human being rather than an action figure, and I appreciate the hell out of that. Plus, Skyfall is a hell of a well-made movie thanks to Sam Mendes being in the director's chair.

All of the development to his backstory is superficial and adds noting. Him being an orphan for example, is entirely irrelevant. It doesn't drive him the same way it does someone like Bruce Wayne. Also the notion of Bond being old and worn out is a bit ridiculous when both Craig films have treated him as the new kid on the block.

The Box Office has been dead for quite some time. People lost faith in cinema and Doomsday and SnoBorderZero were scared they were gonna lose their jobs. But never fear. Business is booming again thanks to two radically different movies. At #1 is Spectre with $73 million and at #2 is Peanuts with $45 million. That's a combined total of $118 million. Meanwhile, The Martian is VERY close to reaching $200 million domestically. Opening next weekend is, well, nothing of importance. So check out Peanuts. It has 86% at Rotten Tomatoes.

THIS WEEK IN BOX OFFICE HISTORYChicken Little was a lot more successful than people remember. In its 2nd weekend, it grossed $31.6 million. That increased its total to $80.4 million. When its all said and done, the movie grossed $135 million and ranked 14th for 2005. It was Disney's 2nd biggest hit of the year. A LOT has changed for Disney in the last 10 years. Kudos to Bob Iger. I don't know how SnoBorderZero feels about it, since he's a lot younger than people realize, but Adam Sandler's star began to fade with Little Nicky. Personally, I think the movie is okay, but it definitely ended Sandler's box office streak and it may have resulted in him sticking to formula for the last 15 years. Sure, he HAS taken career risks, more than he did before Little Nicky, but his mainstream work has certainly been in a creative decline. The lone exception might be Anger Management, but I give Jack Nicholson 100% credit for that movie's success. Anyway, Little Nicky really was a giant box office flop. Even adjusted for inflation, it made less money than Pixels. Ouch. HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY TO ACE VENTURA: WHEN NATURE CALLSDoomsday can act all high-brow he wants, but that won't change that fact that he laughed his ass off to this movie, just like everyone else in 1995. It's hard for PG Cooper to believe this, because he wasn't even alive yet, but Jim Carrey REALLY was a big deal in the mid-to-late 1990's. To put into perspective, Mike Myers gave us Wayne's World in 1991, Austin Powers in 1997 and Shrek in 2001. Jim Carrey gave us Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb & Dumber in less than a year. Name me one other actor who had three, generation-defining hits, in less than a year. Jim Carrey was the goose that laid the golden egg, and when 1995 rolled around, all eyes were on him. The fact that we still talk about Jim Carrey has all to do with 1995. His career could have ended as quickly as it began. He could have been like Pauly Shore or Tom Arnold or Sinbad or any other 90's comedy star that faded away before the Internet became mainstream enough for people to mock them. Jim Carrey had everything riding on two movies and he delivered in a big way. Love it or hate it, Batman Forever was HUGE in 1995. It was the 2nd highest grossing movie of the year, and the biggest of the summer, and sold so many glass cups at McDonald's that thebtskink still has a couple in his parent's refrigerator. Then came the sequel to the movie that turned him from Fire Marshall Bill to a star, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. In a way, this was a bigger deal than Batman Forever. Batman Forever had, well, Batman. Unless you fuck up, almost anything with Batman is gonna be hit. Ace Ventura, on the other hand, is ALL Jim Carrey. If this is a hit, it means that people voted with their money, and Jim Carrey is here to stay. And boy, they sure did. On November 10, 1995, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls opened in theaters, and on its opening weekend, grossed a modern day equivalent of $72.4 million. To put into perspective for IanTheCool , that's how much James Bond made this past weekend. That's right. At one point in history, Ace Ventura was as popular James Bond. Let that sink in. 25 years ago, the Top 3 movies were Child's Play 2, Jacob's Ladder and Ghost, which had been in theaters for 18 weeks. Man... people back then REALLY loved horror movies. HAPPY 35TH ANNIVERSARY TO RAGING BULLEarlier this year, people made a big deal about the 25th anniversary of Goodfellas, probably because a Blu-Ray with a shitty cover was released. And now, with the 35th anniversary of Raging Bull only 4 days away, everyone is quiet. Even Dracula hasn't said a word. Maybe someone should have released it on Blu-Ray with a shitty cover. Or maybe we need to wait for Oscar season so people can, once again, say that Raging Bull was robbed at the Oscars. But if it makes ya'll feel better. Raging Bull did okay at the box office. Adjusted for inflation, it grossed $72 million and ranked 27th for the year. For a black & white movie about a boxer that no one gave a fuck about, that's impressive.
