I see a lot of people around the Web underwhelmed by the trailer, but I mean...it's a WWII drama. Given what the genre is, you're not gonna get an Inception or The Dark Knight-style "OMG, this is going to be epic!!!" tone in the trailer. Those films, while great, were still typical of summer blockbuster fare on a base level. Dunkirk, and the type of film it is, is not, and the trailer represents that accurately. I guess that when Nolan is one of the few people who's able to make something creative and special like Inception it just feel kind of like a waste of his talent to have him making the umpteenth post-SPR world war II movie. I certainly hope there's more to it than that, I'm just saying I haven't really seen any evidence yet that this is the case.

Having seen the 7 minute IMAX scene, all I can say is: shit gonna be cray.

You could say that the story of the Dunkirk evacuation isn't too complex, but the trailer still seemed to explain what was going on fine to me. They are stuck on the beaches of Dunkirk, there's 400,000 of them, they're surrounded by Germans who stopped rolling in their tanks since it's easier to pick them off with planes. They're just trying to survive and be rescued, of which many civilians came to try and help with.

It's the first trailer, the goal wasn't to tell us the central plot and characters. That will come with subsequent trailers, and yes we can trust Nolan here.

No. The trailer doesn't even tell you what Dunkirk is. Are we supposed to pick up a history book after watching the trailer? Dracula is right. It's just random WWII footage. After Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, you can't blind trust Nolan. We need plot, characters, etc. I actually think that WAS the intention of the trailer, which isn't a bad thing. Remember, teaser trailers are only supposed to offer a glimpse of the movie, not tell you everything about it. That'll be the next trailer's job.

It looks like a really good film to me, lots of great visuals.
I am of the, less is more, variety when it comes to trailers. I hate it when you watch one and they literally show you the whole plot.

I've heard that Nolan did some amazing practical effects for some huge scenes. I can't wait to see it.

Is it really going to be PG-13? I'm surprised by that, I thought for sure it'd be R.

It's not a combat movie per say. Every clip in the trailer was of them in combat or about to be in combat. My understanding is that Dunkirk was largely an evacuation and that's what Nolan is focusing on. Think the Great Escape but in a battlefield instead of a prison.

Is it really PG-13? That's not good. I think they can make that work. Dunkirk wasn't really a shooting battle so much as it was the camping trip from hell. If any WW2 movie can be done at PG-13 it's probably this one. Edit: I guess this has been a point of discussion.

Yeah I agree, Nolan has always made great movies and all are PG-13
Why are people so obsessed with gritty violence. It's the reason I can't stand a lot of the Netflix marvel shows. They could have done without all the crazy violence and I would have enjoyed the shows more

Finding Dory Finding Nemo, a sequel to both the popular kids movie franchise and his seminal work, Memento.
