thebtskink , I hate to disappoint you but this movie is total bullshit. The doofus that Channing Tatum plays was only employed by Michael Scott for like 3 years. His BROTHER, the one played by Mark Ruffalo, was there for like 6 years and was murdered by Michael Scott because he wanted a new job and a new life for his family. We both know Michael Scott can't handle rejection. The writers and directors fabricated the story because the one guy who's still alive is a producer on the movie. This explains why Foxcatcher went from the darling of Cannes to not even being nominated for Besf Picture at the Oscars.

The fact that the brother is there longer than the Channing Tatum character is depicted in it (though admittedly the way they compress time does make it seem like it happened over a shorter period of time, which is something of a problem, but for unrelated reasons). Also, the movie isn't a documentary, it's a drama that's based on a somewhat obscure true story that most people don't have a whole lot of investment in.

Well Mark Schultz must not have had much to do with the story given him flipping out about the implied homosexual relationship between him and DuPont.
Also, yeah Dave Schultz was killed something like 8 years after his brother left according to Wikipedia so that time compression is weird.

Dracula thebtskinkThe Channing Tatum character was hired to coach at a college owned by the Steve Carell character. He was fired for hosting wild parties and giving drugs and alcohol to his players and having sex with the female students. Despite all this, he was hired to coach the wrestling team that's depicted in the movie. That only lasted like a year or two and he never lived in the estate. His brother, played by Mark Ruffalo, is the one who lived at the estate and who coached the team for nearly a decade and who was actually close friends with the Carell character. So the story should have been about them, not the Tatum character. But... the Tatum character is the only one who's still alive and he has a producer credit on the movie, so the story focuses on him instead.

This isn't a movie about the Holocaust or Pearl Harbor or something, very few people are invested in this being correct to the detail. The depiction of the Tatum character is not exactly flattering anyway and the broad strokes are accurate. It would hardly be the first movie where the story isn't necessarily from the perspective of the most important character.

People who rather watch a movie starring Mark Ruffalo. Aren't you the guy who chose Olympus Has Fallen over White House Down simply because you hate Channing Tatum? Why is this any different? The guy can't act - at all. So if the real life story mostly revolves around the Ruffalo character, why not actually make Ruffalo the star and improve the movie?

I mostly preferred Olympus Has Fallen because it was rougher, more violent, and had a less annoying sense of humor. Tatum didn't help, but he's better in this movie.

Because the movie is "serious"? This isn't Jonah Hill in Moneyball. Tatum delivers the same borderline mental handicap performance he does in every movie. And the amusing part is that the real life guy is nothing like that. He has more in common with Leo DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street than he does with Tatum in this movie.

Because, whenever he makes action movies he tries to hard to be some kind of charming Chris Pratt type and it comes off annoying. I want my action stars, at least the ones in shoot 'em ups, to be stoic tough guys or possibly sarcastic Bruce Willises, not goofballs. When he makes prestige type stuff he takes his craft a little more seriously and tries harder to make a more well rounded character, which he more or less does here.

I still think his "I might have to take a shit" walk in this movie is awesome.
Knowing people that have wrestled through college, he nailed that.
