DraculaI listened to the samples for the new album. Genocide and Loose Cannons are the only songs that sound good to me.

It's an interesting album, more of a showcase for Dre the producer than Dre the rapper. The many many featured artists completely dominate the album but most of them do seem to be following the central concept rather than going off on their own flights of fancy. Dre has grown up a little and there isn't a lot of talk about money and bitches here, it mostly actually is about Compton. A lot of the less mature gangsta aspects of The Chronic and 2001 are gone but not entirely, this isn't necessarily something that's going to get the respect of something like Kendrick Lamar's solo albums. The productions are really good, it's rare to hear a hip hop album that sounds like it was entirely produced by one mind (which is one of the less talked about aspects of what makes Kanye such a great album makers). I don't think this is going to be as popular as Dre's previous triumphs, you can tell that Dre is a 50 year old man who isn't necessarily in touch with all the latest trends, as someone who is old school himself that works fine for me but I don't think he'll be winning over any Young Thug fans. There also isn't really much in the way of radio singles here and there's certainly isn't a track here that will be remembered as fondly as Nothin' but a G Thang or Forgot About Dre.

It's an interesting album, more of a showcase for Dre the producer than Dre the rapper. Yeah, it's essentially a sequel to Aftermath. The Chronic and 2001 are the only true Dr. Dre albums. I think that says a lot about Dr. Dre. He has always been a producer first and a rapper way down the list. The Chronic and 2001 are such classic albums (thanks largely to Snoop Dogg, Eminem and others) that we tend to forget that Dre never really cared about rapping and he's happiest behind the computer. Loose Cannons, on the new album, is a great example of that. Half of the song is a "comedy" sketch with all the quintessential Dr. Dre sound effects. That's what he loves doing.
