It isn't exaggerated. The screenwriter admitted he made it gay as hell and the lead said he new what was going on too. I meant the audience reaction. I don't think people are actually upset about it. They just like joking about it - like Top Gun. The real "crime" is all the plot holes created by the movie. For example, they say Nancy went crazy and her mother killed herself. That doesn't even make sense. The original movie ended with Nancy defeating Freddy by not being scared of him, so how did she go crazy and why did her mom kill herself? AND, defeating Freddy worked so well that in Part 2 he's powerless from the lack of fear. So, Part 2 acknowledges the ending of Part 1 but also ignores it. Another example is the one that pisses off Wes Craven. Freddy comes to life and attacks people at the pool party. If Freddy can come to life and kill people, then why focus so much on dreams? Like I said... it's best to treat Part 2 as a standalone movie. It contradicts the original movie and the other sequels completely ignore it. When are they ever really worried about him or plotting against him? They're always worried about him. And they don't plot against him because they realized Freddy and Jason were just gonna defeat each other. Why get in the way of that?

It was more that they realized Freddy represented a much greater threat; they can run away from Jason but they can't with Freddy if they ever fall asleep. So they did want Jason to win because they're a lot less screwed if that's the result, plus he'd likely make his way back to Crystal Lake anyways and leave all of them alone (which is basically what he's doing at the end). Not enough Friday in the film to justify it as even, it's 80% Nightmare, probably even more to be honest.
And yes, that's why I and others don't like Freddy's Revenge very much. The gay subtext is more funny to me than anything, it's exactly the reasons Neverending outlined. The film abandons the "rules" of the original and does so for outlandish things that don't really make much sense. Now he can control/possess kids? Now he can come to life and be powerful outside of the dream world? The lead was also pretty annoying. It has the awesome "You are all my children now" line at the pool party, other than that it's kind of an odd entry in the series like Neverending said.
So yes Neverending, I'm disagreeing and agreeing with you... all in one post!

Now he can come to life and be powerful outside of the dream world? And considering the sequels went back to the rules, Part 2 just feels like the black sheep of the franchise. It's almost Halloween 3 esque. Now you know how Dracula feels. Although, surprisingly, we see eye-to-eye on the Nightmare series. He also thinks 5 is better than 4. How do you feel now about your Criterion God, SnoBorderZero?

Haha, almost Halloween 3 is true. Shit, you can make a case that Jason Goes to Hell is Halloween 3 since actual Jason is in that piece of shit for like 5 minutes. Fuck that movie. At least Halloween 3 has an annoying song and a weird sex scene, that's counts for something right?

I vaguely recall liking 5 more than 4 but if you asked me what the difference was between them today I don't know that I'd be able to tell you. Also, I didn't think the remake was that bad, so what do I know.

I can agree that part two is very much like Halloween 3.
2 was thrown together fast and cheap and suffered greatly. The writers probably assumed they they didn't need to follow the canon that 1 created, they just needed Freddy and people would flock.

Halloween 3 is a great horror movie, it just shouldn't have the Halloween branding. I'll always have a soft spot for Nightmare 4 as that was my exposure to the character at a very young age. 5 has grew on me as I've grown older in terms of the concept and the ending. As for future movies, it'd never work, but I'd love to see an adaptation of the second vs. Ash series they did a couple of years back. It's basically every survivor of either franchise + Ash being recruited by Nancy and Dr. Gordon to wage a war against Jason and Freddy. It's gigantic fan service, but ridiculously fun. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddy_vs._Jason_vs._Ash:_The_Nightmare_Warriors
