Well, I looked around for a general Horror movie thread, and saw none - so since there was a Friday the 13th thread, and there are now a lot of films in this title - I thought, why not?
I was contemplating a TCM marathon today because I am pretty bored, but I thought better of it - even I can stand only one or two of these gore-fests in one sitting lol.
So I picked The Beginning. It was one I wanted to see when it first came out, but I didn't manage to get out to the theater at the time to go see it. I also heard a lot of people and reviews about it not being all that good. It has 12% on RT, and only a 5.9/10 on IMDb. And I've been hesitant to pull the trigger because Rob Zombie's Halloween revealed too much about Michael Myers' beginnings and pretty much lessened the impact of the character. Showing some of Michael's past was a good idea, because some of it is pretty interesting - but it made him too human.
The Beginning I think had the right amount of history to set up the story of Leatherface, and while I wasn't really comfortable seeing R. Lee Ermy in the 2003 remake (he seemed kind of out of place) he does a brilliant job of playing the part in this movie (it would have been better to do this one first).
I really enjoyed this one and thought it deserved better marks than it has gotten.
The original will always be a groundbreaking #1 - but this is a really good addition to the rebooted franchise.
I'm still wondering why they changed the family name from Sawyer to Hewitt though - anyone know why?

I've only seen the first and I doubt I'll change that any time soon.

I've seen the first, second, fourth, fifth and now Sixth. Out of those I would probably only watch the original again.
I probably should see #3 just because.
It was weird seeing McConaughey and Zelweiger in the fourth one lol
