Ian got GoldenEye confused with Tomorrow Never Dies for the Playstation. The best video game adaptation is still Steven Spielberg's adaptation of ET for the Atari.

Ian's Bond Education Tomorrow Never Dies
Now for what may be the most generic of all the Bond movie titles... Tomorrow Never Dies opens well, as Bond has to fly a nuclear missile out of a terrorist mountain camp before the whole place explodes. it injects adrenaline into the movie as it is meant to. I also liked the plot set up where a secret organization is trying to start a war between China and Britain, even though this gives us quite the stretch with no Bond. However, I found that this set up was mostly disappointing. They keep hinting throughout the movie that China and the West are tat the brink of war, but that tension is never really felt at all. We only get a couple headlines here and there. I also didn't like Jonathon Price's villain, playing a sinister William Randolph Hearst. It felt like the filmmakers here wanted to say something clever about media mogulism, but it wasn't very compelling. But here's my biggest problem with the movie (which is my same problem with the title): its generic. There's really nothing special or interesting about this particular Bond installment. Action scenes are scattered throughout, but they're pretty plain Jane. There is a motorcycle/car/helicopter chase which is very run-of-the-mill. There's a part where the movie oddly turns into a kung fu movie for about 3 minutes. Then there is the climax on the stealth boat with is just more of the same: James shooting guns while running as things around him explode. TND is not incompetent, but there is absolutely nothing special. Except maybe that part where he pretends to give a guy a light and instead punches him in the face. 5/10

Jibbs and Dracula will roll their eyes, but the latest Fast & Furious trailer reminded me of James Bond. Remember when we used to get Bond movies every 2 to 3 years and they were over-the-top and fun? What happened? It has been 10 years - 10 years - since Casino Royale and we've only gotten three more movies. Quantum of Solace, thankfully, came 2 years after Royale but it took 4 years for Skyfall and 3 years for Spectre. Jesus F. Christ. And we have no idea when the next Bond movie is coming. It has been a year since Spectre and the franchise has been on standby. Are we gonna have to wait till 2020 for another Bond movie? Donald Trump may have ended the world by then. I want the Fast & Furious people to take over James Bond. I want bi-yearly movies and I want them to be ridiculous. Is that too much to ask?

The other problem is that Daniel Craig is being a bitch and whining about doing these so they keep giving him time to do other stuff. That and they feel they need to over-complicate things and "save" the franchise with every movie so they're probably taking more time to write all of them.

Spectre was a good enough finale for Daniel Craig. We can move on. Find some 30-year-old and make 5 movies in the next 10 years. Then repeat the same process over and over again till the end of time.

I kind of agree. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've seen enough evidence to know that all three of us miss the days of classic, fun, Bond.

But if given the choice between getting a Skyfall or heck, even a Spectre every 3-4 years or a Die Another Day every 2 years, wouldn't you guys want the former?

Spectre should have been an entirely different movie. A better example would be: I rather get Tomorrow Never Dies every 2 years than Skyfall every 4 years.

No. And given that we, just as likely to get a Quantum of Solace under the current system as we are to get a Casino Royale we might as well just go with the Brosnan style stuff.

I'm all for waiting for good Bond, though I do enjoy the silly romps of the Moore era as well. Thing is, when these movies are bad (like Quantum of Solace) they aren't bad fun like A View to a Kill or something like that. They're not funny or fun, they're just bad. I don't mind waiting, we've gotten so many Bond movies over the year that why not spend a little extra time to make them memorable amidst the bunch?

If anything I feel like a big part of the problem they've been having is that they're overthinking these things.

I think you guys might enjoy the last two Brosnan movies more than I do. Those movies meant well. The last decade of James Bond has been cashing in on 24 and Jason Bourne. when these movies are bad I'll stop you right there. There has never been a truly awful James Bond movie. If you believe that, then you aren't a real fan. Me and Jibbs can get entertainment value from any of the movies. Even when watching something as ridiculous as Moonraker, you can still find something to laugh at. Thing is, I don't know that extra time is really any guarantee that these end up being better (see: Quantum of Solace). Quantum of Solace isn't the best example. That came 2 years after Casino Royale. That's the standard for this franchise - or was. The best example is Spectre. It took 3 years and ended up being worse than Casino Royale and Skyfall. This franchise has always had up's and down's. Whether it takes 2 years or 4 years isn't gonna prevent that. It's a formula driven franchise. Sometimes the formula works and sometimes it doesn't. You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker are the same exact movie but the range is quality between the three is all over the place. They just need to keep making movies and hope for the best. The fans will stick around and that's all you need. There's enough of us to keep this franchise alive.

I agree with that, Spectre was a good example of them succumbing to attempting to put too much into the film, though overall I still liked the film even if it wasn't as good as Casino Royale or Skyfall.

Moonraker is a terrible movie, but yeah it's entertaining. There ARE bad Bond movies, but that doesn't mean they don't have their merits and redeemable qualities. Die Another Day comes very, very close to not though. It's the worst of the franchise and I can't think of anything good about it. It wasn't even entertaining, it just sucked.

She gets points deducted for being the worst Bond girl ever. The worst Bond girl is probably the 2nd Asian chick from You Only Live Twice. Not only was she overshadowed by the red headed villain Bond girl, but she wasn't as memorable as the "in Japan men come first" Bond girl that James Bond married.

Ok you have a point only because I have no recollection who you're talking about. Granted I haven't seen that movie since I was like 12, but I'll give you the nod. I just really hate Die Another Day.
