Ah, another weekend of flops, another Monday full of 'here's the REAl reason why X movie bombed!' think pieces. It's too bad though, I would have figured more people would have turned out for this movie too.

Tracking below Neverending's favorite movie of the year Ghostbusters. Oof. Box office? Fury Road barely cracked the Top 25. Ah, another weekend of flops, another Monday full of 'here's the REAl reason why X movie bombed!' think pieces. It's too bad though, I would have figured more people would have turned out for this movie too. People misremember Fury Road being a hit cause of its critical and awards success. 9 years later, Furiosa wasn't gonna fix that. The issue here is the overall abysmal May box office. PhantomKnight and I literally discussed this possibility at the start of the year when Dune II and Fall Guy swapped dates. June and July have Minions and Deadpool/Wolverine to coast on. The fall is taking a swing with Beetlejuice and Joker. So there is still money to be made. That said... between the pandemic, the strikes and the state of streaming, the industry is certainly in a tough spot. PG Cooper may do a video essay on it, but this is arguably the worst the business has been in since the 1960's. |

It's really frustrating that this movie didn't do well. I'm hoping it has some legs from word of mouth but this should've been a hit.

Because of work and life I was hoping to block out some time to see it mid to late June. Now I'm not sure if that'll be a possibility. Eh, I'm sure some theater within driving distance will be playing it at 10:00AM on a Sunday.
