I'm not a fan of horror. Just not my genre. That's why it does nothing for me.
Once in a while, a horror flick is decent and I'll end up liking it, But a comic film about new mutants done as a horror?

This right here is the benefit of something not being part of a shared universe: getting to branch out into different genres. An X-Men related movie approached as a horror film? Sign me up!

Very interested. Anything to make the superhero genre more than a black and white universe has me intrigued. Fox has a real chance at making something interesting with this.
Will magneto be involved at all though?

I can't help but feel that this trailer has been cut to emphasize the horror aspects of the film, while keeping the mutant power almost completely unseen. Most of the horror imagery is probably being created by Mirage, but that's not readily apparent to anyone who isn't familiar with The New Mutants. The movie is probably not going to be nearly as much of a horror movie as the trailer would have us believe. Fox is going to want sequels, and making those into horror movies as well seems problematic. Who knows, though. At least Fox is now willing to try something beyond the usual, now that Logan and Deadpool have worked.
It's a shame the next X-Men movie can't say the same. From everything I've heard, that's going to be a train wreck.

Thats a weird statement since you admonish Fox for not previously being willing to try something new, while in the same sentence acknowledging they did with two other movies.

Thats a weird statement since you admonish Fox for not previously being willing to try something new, while in the same sentence acknowledging they did with two other movies. Well, Fox themselves are being weird. While Fox started off strong with what, for the time, was a groundbreakingly new kind of superhero movie with X-Men (2000), they quickly began to play it safe with blandly generic stories of varying quality with their Marvel properties. It took them sixteen years to finally do something different again with Deadpool (2016) and Logan (2017). It would be fantastic if these films marked an end to Fox's run of predictably safe fare, but every public comment on the progress of X-Men: Dark Phoenix from those involved with the production is that it's going to be more of the same "grounded" superheroes- no aliens or cosmic entities, no space travel. The Gambit movie has been in development hell for years, probably because they can't figure out how to do anything original and interesting with him (the answer BTW is to just not bother! He works best when he has the other X-Men to interact with! All of his solo series have sucked balls.).

Simon Kinberg wrote the script when it was supposed to be a Matthew Vaughn film.

Can we just agree that after Avengers 3 we just stop with comic book movies?

I thought they said infinity war was going to only be one movie after all? Infinity War is just the title of Avengers 3. Part II is still being made under a different title.

Wyldstaar Moved to 2019 Deadpool 2 opening in May instead of June. Moving Deadpool 2 out of June is a good move, but May 18th is stupid. April is wide open. I'm not sure what to make of moving The New Mutants so far forward. I doubt it has anything to do with the Disney merger, since Fox has continued to use their Marvel license as though it's not even happening. The revelation this week of a Kitty Pryde project in the pipeline is baffling, since the deal will have gone through long before it has a chance to go anywhere, and Disney is bound to shelve it. Gambit was about to start filming, until Verbinski quit this week.

Foreign territories wanted a bigger gap between New Mutants and Deadpool 2. Too much Marvel at the same time Black Panther & Avengers are also in the mix.

WyldstaarOnly one response is suitable to this entire situation. New Mutants was sandwiched in between Black Panther and Avengers. Now it’s sandwiched in between Hellboy Reboot and Captain Marvel.

New Mutants was far enough away from both Panther and Avengers to never really be in any danger. Given it was aiming at a different demographic than either (though admittedly still trying to lure in comic book and superhero fans) it most likely would have done its business and have been out of mind by the time Infinity War showed up. Horror is notoriously frontloaded, with exceptions like It or The Conjuring.
It's also been pushed past the point where Disney is set to start taking control of Fox. Given the fact the New Mutants trailer never quite trended very well, had a "horror" theme that honestly didn't look scary (and quite generic), and kicking horror films around the schedule normally tends to be a bad omen, this reeks of being something of a "bury it" move.
Poising it next year will most likely make them some decent money, but after the cash has been counted New Mutants is going to be put to sleep.

Fox already said they moved it because of the foreign market. They couldn’t find room for it. Too much Marvel in a small window. Don’t forget these movies don’t always open everywhere at once. The Last Jedi didn’t open in China till like a week ago.
