With all this Mayweather/Pacquiao hype, I decided to watch a boxing match for the first time in over a decade - and man - what the fuck happened to the sport? I watched Klitschko vs Jennings on HBO and it was a fucking joke. These guys fought for 12 rounds and you wouldn't even know it based on their face. Jennings spent most of the fight dancing around the ring and Klitschko looked like Frankenstein. And then they wonder why UFC has made boxing irrelevant.

Boxing used to be a toe to toe slugfest - then Muhammad Ali came along with his rope-a-dope in 1974's Rumble in the Jungle match against George Foreman. Slowed it right the fuck down and made it boring.

The problem with boxing is the pay-per-view system. Every time there's a fight with enough hype behind it to get a casual fan interested it gets locked behind a ridiculously expensive paywall. This Mayweather/Pacquiao could convert so many people to the sport, but none of those people are going to spend that kind of money to see it. I'm sure as hell not.

Especially if it doesn't go the distance - I'd hate to pay all that and have it be over in 2 or 3 rounds

Boxing used to be a toe to toe slugfest - then Muhammad Ali came along with his rope-a-dope in 1974's Rumble in the Jungle match against George Foreman. Slowed it right the fuck down and made it boring. Some of the greatest boxing matches were in the 80's and 90's. Hearns and Hagler is a prime example of boxing in that era. In the heyday of boxing, people used to have viewing parties where you invite a shitload of people to your house and everyone chipped in. But considering we're in the "cord cutting" era, I don't know if that's still a thing. Especially if it doesn't go the distance - I'd hate to pay all that and have it be over in 2 or 3 rounds Yeah... that was the big issue (and running gag) during the Mike Tyson era. There's a great episode of Martin where they capture that sentiment perfectly.

I was always watching the heavyweights. Big mistake. You missed Oscar De La Hoya. You missed Trinidad. Mayweather vs Pacquiao is a welterweight fight. I understand the appeal of heavyweights, but man, the little guys kick ass too.

It's funny how many times HBO and Showtime have re-aired the Mayweather & Pacquiao fight. Do they realize that everyone hated this fight?

It was a good fight but also a sharp example of how lacking in quality the heavyweight division is right now - and has been for a good decade.
Anthony Joshua should improve things but it'd help if he had some decent competition. Where all the American heavyweights at?

With a Nate Robinson vs Jake Paul undercard Please, please Nate Robinson win. I'd say I'm hoping for a serious brain injury to occur for Jake Paul, but in order for that to happen he has to have a working brain.
