I've seen this trailer at least 25 times. It really makes me hate this movie with an undeniable passion.
The 'hey, I just wanted to get another look at you' and her stupid face as she smirks back at him constantly make me cringe.
And we all know Cooper's wise black friend should have been Chris tucker. Missed opportunity there.
I'm sure I'll get dragged to this, but I've easily seen the trailer as many times as probably half the run time of the actual movie.

It doesn't look particularly interesting, but I guess every generation needs a version of A Star is Born and we were starting to become overdue.
It's getting good word of mouth. I might see it just to say I saw it, but I'm not much of a music guy so my anticipation is tempered.

Apparently, Steven Spielberg saw an early cut of this and was so impressed that he suggested Bradley Cooper himself should direct the Leonard Bernstein biopic the two of them are attached to instead of him.
I've never seen any other version of A Star Is Born, and I'm sure the story has lots of expected plot points, but...the execution looks good. |

A Star is Born is something I know more by reputation than have actually seen, though most accounts say the Beverly Garland one is the best and the Susan Sarandon one is easily the worst. It seems to be this rise to fame tearjerker that gets dusted off every twenty years or so because it's easy to modernise and audiences always seem to respond to it (or in this case "go GaGa"). It's going to be one of those cases where we know every beat and we certainly know the ending, which is as iconic as they come. But one doesn't go to the latest version of A Star is Born to be surprised, just like you want to see everyone die at the end of Hamlet. You don't go to Romeo & Juliet to see them get a house in the suburbs and raise a family, you don't go to see Titanic with the thought of maybe this time the ship will make it to the next harbor, and you don't go to see Of Mice and Men to see Lenny and George raise a bunch of rabbits on a farm. If you change the ending of A Star is Born then you can go fuck yourself. I might run through the other versions before the new one comes out myself. Seems like it might be interesting. |
