Well I finally decided to start writing my screenplay. Signed up with Celtx and plan on starting once I jot down character names, a quick timeline, and a couple of locations.
Anyone have any luck with Celtx? It is free so I guess I can not complain, since I am totally new to this I did not want to invest any money on software. Maybe if I get it totally done and decide to keep going, then I might get one of the paid programs but so far I like it.
Anyway, Once I get something completed I might share a little here, hoping to turn it into a TV series. It is going to be a drama with some sci-fi mixed in. I am pretty excited to finally get it going. Any advice would be appreciated, since I have never done anything like this before.

I've used Celtx before. Its not bad, once you get used to it. I generally use Final Draft, though.

I use Celtx, it's pretty good and easy to use. I've used it for a couple specs and the feature I'm working on. I would buy a couple screenwriting books though to help give you some pointers, from outlining to fleshing out characters before starting.

Yeah, as for books, I usually used Sid Field's "Screenplay: The Foundations of Screenwriting." Generally served me pretty well.

Dooms is right: this is something totally your own. That's what's so great about writing. In terms of software, I've always used Celtx. It's been reliable enough, plus it's free. So you really can't go wrong there. You should definitely listen to Frizzo--Sid Field's book is indispensable.

Downloaded a couple of screen plays, from movies I love. Going to read through them. Never bothered to read a screenplay before. Should be interesting.

The time I wrote a screenplay, I also just used MS Word. I used it primarily because I wasn't willing to pay for a professional program, since i was mostly doing it just to see how hard it would be to write a loyal adaptation of a book. I adapted the novel Agent to the Stars by John Scalzi. It turned out pretty much spot on, with only a few concessions for time, but it's also a fairly short book (9 hours as an audio book). I need to try something longer some day.

Well a slow start BUT I do have everything in order and a few pages down. Already needing to go back and rework what I have done but it is exciting. Thinking of submitting it to Amazon Studios when I get done. I have zero connection to anyone that could help make my script into an actual film so I think it is pretty cool Amazon has this option for amateurs like myslef. Still a long way from that point but it makes the experience that much more fun.

Nice! You're going to rewrite a lot, it's part of the process of molding your story.
