PG Cooper wasn't even alive in 1993 and he's liking Wyldstaar 's post. But I digress... let's not pretend He-Man, Transformers and G.I. Joe weren't shit. But I bet you watched that shit religiously. I did, but a turd's a turd, and I recognize that now. Also, I have no interest in this film beyond mild hilarity that they're trying to make something so inherently silly and light-hearted (and dumb) into something dark and edgy. The Nolanization of Power Rangers.

I won't deny that I watched them, but it's not as though I was ignoring something better while doing so. My fond memories of Transformers and GI Joe stem almost entirely from the toys rather than the cartoons.

it's not as though I was ignoring something better while doing so. Transformers was that obnoxious show that came on after DuckTales.

Poor James
Also, and I can't believe I have to point this out to James Rolfe, but Power Rangers aired 6-days a week. That's why season 1 is 60 episodes. That's standard for kids shows of the 80's and 90's.

Reviews are saying the trailers are way more serious than the tone of the actual film, and that it is a great Power Rangers movie. I'm no longer hesitant to see it this weekend.

Unless this manages to do extremely well when it finally gets released in Japan and China, it doesn't look as though there will be a sequel. PR tanked in Hong Kong, so it doesn't seem very likely that the East Asian market is very interested. The Krispy Kreme Power Rangers are currently at $120.8 mil at the worldwide box office, with a production budget of $100 mil. I doubt that even the product placement dollars are going to be enough to make up the difference.

I love how we're rebooting reboots at a near-record pace. I'm looking forward to seeing which franchise can have two reboots inside of a year. It's going to happen.

Doesn't Super Sentai/Power Rangers reboot every year? Hasn't that been their standard formula since the show first began in Japan?

Links between each series are vague. Each Sentai/Ranger show starts seemingly from scratch, but they more or less like to be considered one big happy loose continuity.
The one exception is Power Rangers: RPM. I haven't seen that one, but from what I gather it takes place in a different dimension.

I don't know if I can watch a new Power Rangers again. I am not quite sure. We'll see what happens.
