I said it in 2012 and I'll say it again in 2014. Nolan NEEDS a 1941. Badly. His ego is out-of-control. If he wants to be the next Spielberg, in terms of success, he needs that giant flop that will knock him back to reality.

I'm kind of going to be skeptical of most negative reviews of this one. The Nolan backlash is in full swing and people are gunning for him. I agree....but yeah, I'm nervous. Then again, a lot of people didn't like Inception. His style of science fiction isn't for everyone. Some are saying it has pacing issues if you don't like to hear about time travel and wormhole theory. Well, I do. I like my science fiction hard. I said it in 2012 and I'll say it again in 2014. Nolan NEEDS a 1941. Badly. His ego is out-of-control. If he wants to be the next Spielberg, in terms of success, he needs that giant flop that will knock him back to reality. Fine, but not this one.

INCEPTION - 86% Smart, innovative, and thrilling, Inception is that rare summer blockbuster that succeeds viscerally as well as intellectually.
INTERSTELLAR - 74% (AS OF OCTOBER 27) Interstellar represents more of the thrilling, thought-provoking, and visually resplendent filmmaking that moviegoers have come to expect from writer-director Christopher Nolan, even if its intellectual reach somewhat exceeds its grasp.

It's at 64% right now. Doesn't matter though, I'll see it. "Nolan's "Interstellar" spends hundreds of millions to take the audience on a journey to the farthest parts of the cosmos ... so they can be told sentiments as close, and as cheap, as any of the offerings at your local Hallmark card retailer." Ouch. I was telling you guys before and I'll say it again. Unless this damn thing is above 80% on rottentomatoes I will not be going out of my way to see it. It looks boring.... And from the reviews I seem to have been right in some ways. I will still get dragged to this... All of my friends are super hyped. You might be right NEVERENDING this might be the one that takes a hit on Nolan's rating, his level of expectation for every movie is overly high. Like the man can't make a bad film.

Not sure what people were expecting. You could tell from the trailers that this would most likely be a dialogue heavy movie with a science fiction twist. Im expecting something along the lines of Contact. Either way, I bought my tickets for 70mm Imax, cant freakin wait

Im expecting something along the lines of Contact. No. No. No. This movie has NOTHING to do with Contact. It was a Steven Spielberg movie for like 10 years and then he decided to move on to other things because he's like 70 years old. And based on these early reviews, it seems like Nolan changed very little. Some critics are calling it an expensive Hallmark movie. That tells you everything you need to know. And in case you weren't aware from the hundreds of news reports over the last decade, Interstellar is a time travel movie. One of the reviews even revealed that three different actresses play Matthew McConaughey's daughter, including Jessica Chastain. So this is just a sappy Spielberg-esque time travel movie with fancy special effects. If it were 90 minutes, or 2 hours tops, I can almost guarantee it would be getting rave reviews. But it's almost 3 hours long.

The movie peaked at 75% yesterday but now it's down to 69% www.rottentomatoes.com/m/interstellar_2014/At this rate, this could turn out to be Nolan's worst reviewed movie. Following - 78% Memento - 92% Insomnia - 92% Batman Begins - 85% The Prestige - 76% The Dark Knight - 94% Inception - 86% The Dark Knight Rises - 88%

Nolan doesn't need a "1941"-esque movie, the guy has made nearly ten films now whereas "1941" was early in Spielberg's career and just ballooned because he had free reign after "Jaws" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and it became a silly mess. Nolan isn't going to make a debacle film like that because his "ego" is too high; like him or not he's top dog in Hollywood and that's not changing anytime soon. Maybe this film is a bit gluttonous, but I don't see why running time should scare people away if it's well made. He doesn't make little films, all of his from here on will likely clock in at over 2 hours and that's fine with me. All the top directors make long films because they can and they hope their audience has attention spans and brain cells enough to support them through it, and Nolan has yet to make anything boring. I'm not writing the film off until I've seen it, I'm more subscribed to the idea that critics are looking to finally jump on him moreso than his grandiose ego is spiraling out of control. He doesn't need to make a stinker in order to reevaluate and check himself as a filmmaker.

I think Nolan gets enough shit for Dark Knight Rises for us to not worry about his ego. Also, I don't think any of his movies are going to bomb at the box office any time soon.

He doesn't need to make a stinker in order to reevaluate and check himself as a filmmaker. Do you have Robert Rodriguez's El Rey Network on your cable package? He has a show where he interviews fellow directors and in his episode with Quentin Tarantino, Tarantino said that Death Proof flopping was the best thing that ever happened to him. Before Death Proof, he felt that he could do whatever he want and audiences would accept. He learned that wasn't true and now he's more conscience of the decisions he makes. So if Tarantino, who's arguably the most egotistical person in contemporary Hollywood, learned a major lesson from a flop, then I believe Christopher Nolan could use a flop as well. Like JBond said, I highly doubt that Interstellar will flop at the box office because of all the hype, but he's still a relatively young filmmaker with many more movies on the horizon. So don't worry, SnoBorder, his flop will eventually come. All the great directors have had flops.

Kind of a bummer the reviews haven't been real kind, but it doesn't really matter to me I guess. There's nothing that could prevent me from seeing this.

70% with probably a good 100-ish more reviews to come in.
Also, I'll be at the European premiere tonight in London (spectating, not actually going into the cinema) so I'll try to take some pictures.

I'll be seeing it in a few weeks. I'm really interested in seeing it. I've yet to sit and not enjoy a Nolan movie.

70% with probably a good 100-ish more reviews to come in. The movie opens next Wednesday. So, I think by Friday we'll have a clear picture of the critical reaction.
