From Batman to Birdman? No. From Robocop to Birdman. That was Michael Keaton's 2014. He followed the guideline of his fellow Batman, George Clooney. "One for them and one for me." New Batman, Ben Affleck, also seems to be following that rule. But while Gravity was an Oscar winning blockbuster and Affleck is on a row, Robocop came and went. It was killed by angry Internet users who declared that the movie was garbage before they even saw it. But the truth is, the new Robocop is awesome.
It's loyal to the original, but also creates its own identity with a Frankenstein-esque story featuring Gary Oldman. It adapts the plot to current times and makes other changes to give fans a different experience from the original. There's loads of fan service. The casting is great. And the action scenes are well-executed.
The only flaws are minimal. Violence and satire, the defining characteristics of the original, are underutilized here. And the ending isn't satisfying. But don't concern yourself with this at the moment. Focus on the good stuff and give this new Robocop a chance. It might surprise you.

I agree, Robocop was surprisingly not bad. It has its flaws but it's a fun watch.

Still retaining some of his humanity (him not "dying") was the one thing that ruined it the most for me. Not having that link to his family, who didn't know he was technically still alive, is what makes the Robocop story interesting. Involving his wife and son so much this time around was blah.
The silver/black rendition of the suit should have been the one through the whole film, too. Not just the color, but the design, looked much better and more robotic (less suit-like). As well as being a far better homage, yet updated.

You're wrong. You know why? Because Doomsday liked the movie. No one, and I mean no one, hates movies more than Doomsday. So for him to like a movie, you know it has to be good. |

This was a PG-13 waste of time, I'll wait for them to do a real reboot of it in 10 years in all its R-rated glory.

Not the worst remake I have ever seen but just felt like the Saturday morning cartoon version of Robocop and not the real thing. The original can not be beat. The second was not too bad either. I place the remake right above the third Robocop.

My co-worker got annoyed cause I referred to him as a programmer instead of a "curator." I wonder who at TBS decided to "curate" Robocop (2014) at 3 in the morning.

Fauxbocop was mostly just blandly unremarkable. I am however, looking forward to Neill Blomkamp's Robocop Returns. We certainly won't have to worry about a watered down, PG-13 version coming from him.
