That's his favorite director? Jimbo is a huge fan of District 9 and that Matt Damon movie.

That's his favorite director? He's being sarcastic.
This is crazy. Weaver will probably be in it.

I'll see it, but I'm not going to allow myself to get too excited about it. I've been burned too many times by attempts to relaunch once great movie franchises.

That's exciting. I wish it wasn't Blomkamp but that's okay.

So is this going to be Alien 5? From what I've heard so far, it looks like this is going to be Alien 3 redux. They're going to ignore Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, just as Superman Returns ignored Superman 3 & 4.

I kinda like that, I mean "Alien 3" was a hot mess and they killed off the supporting cast from "Aliens" which was stupid, so I'm all for this. I like Blomkamp, "District 9" was a wonderful surprise and "Elysium" was a major disappointment but not a terrible film, I have hope for "Chappie" to signal a return to form for him. His concept art for Alien is pretty cool, this could actually turn out solid.

I feel like I'm the only one who didn't think Alien 3 was that bad.
Resurrection, on the other hand.... woof.

I think Alien 3 needed some work. I'd love to see Fincher take another shot at the series now that he would obviously have the full backing of the studio rather than all the intervention he had to deal with last time.

Yeah they screwed Fincher over big time with "Alien 3" which is why it was so all over the place. Didn't they build the sets before they wrote the script? What a horrible idea.

So, they're doing both this and Prometheus 2?

So, they're doing both this and Prometheus 2? Yup, Ridley Scott is producing this one in addition to directing Prometheus 2.

As much as I dislike Alien 3 and 4...I'm not sure I can get behind retconning them. I used to watch these movies all the time. All four, in a row.
Then again...what's Michael Biehn up to...

As much as I dislike Alien 3 and 4...I'm not sure I can get behind retconning them. Retconning is pointless. Ripley was cloned. Blomkamp can do whatever he wants. That's the beauty of Alien Resurrection. It opened the door to standalone sequels. If he's gonna follow in the footsteps of Alien and Aliens, not only does he have to continue the story arc but he has to live up to the legacy of those movies. There's a reason why Ridley Scott chose to do Prometheus instead of a proper Alien prequel. There's more freedom.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but most fans of the first two didn't care for it. Personally, I came very close to just walking out of the theater, but I stuck it out. By the time it was over, I was wishing I'd gone ahead and walked. I already am in the habit of just pretending that Alien 3 doesn't exist, so the idea of Blomkamp ignoring it as well doesn't phase me a bit. I still consider the Aliens miniseries from Dark Horse Comics which were published before Alien 3 to be the true sequel. If this new film does a good job, fantastic. If not, I've still got my graphic novels.

I don't remember hating 3 as much as most...but I know I didn't like more than the first two. 4 had Wincott and Perlman and I kind of over looked everything else. The idea of retconning is disappointing. I hope that's not the case, but I love Blomkamp's aesthetic and I think it will look great in the Alien universe.

Prometheus, whilst massively flawed, had immense promise.
More Alien movies? No thanks.
Nothing will ever surpass 1 or 2, depending on who you speak to, so it just seems futile.
Let Prometheus be our gateway out of the Giger way of thinking and on to something bigger.
This feels like a kneejerk reaction because Prometheus didn't deliver, box office-wise.
