Bill Bixby played such a radically different Bruce Banner -his name wasn't even Bruce - that it's not fair to compare him to the others.
Eric Bana was good. Stop hating. He fit the psychologically driven Bruce Banner that was appropriate for the story that Ang Lee was telling.
Edward Norton was dorky enough to be believable as a scientist.
Mark Ruffalo is clearly the best. He has all the quirks required for the role.

Isn't his full name Robert Bruce Banner? In the comics he's Robert Bruce Banner. On the TV show he was David Bruce Banner. In the 2003 Ang Lee movie he was Bruce Krenzler, and just to make things confusing his father was named David Banner. In the MCU, he's only ever been referred to as Bruce Banner. |

And the rumor from the TV show is they changed the name to David, from Bruce, because a studio exec thought Bruce sounded too gay.

The rumor from the TV show is they changed the name to David, from Bruce, because a studio exec thought Bruce sounded too gay. That's what Stan Lee and Lou Ferrigno claim. The creator of show said that he wanted to distance himself from the comic books. His Hulk is a different Hulk, that's why it's David Banner instead of Bruce Banner. |

Haha, it's a shame that the "Bruce sounds gay" story is BS because that sounds like a classic corporate 80s boardroom decision.
"We need the Hulk to be more hetero, guys. We're dropping the Bruce. David is a strong, manly, American name."
"What about his skin? Green's kinda gay too."

Eh, it was the early 80s. Would not be shocking if it were true. Of course the guy isn't going to say it is true now. Good cover story though. I think I prefer to think it went down exactly as Deexan imagined.
