Inspired by SnoBorderZero's rank the filmography thread, this would have us look at an actor and rank their films based on the strength of the performances. Obviously you can rank the films however you'd like, but the focus should be on the quality of the performance itself not so much what movie you look more on the whole. For our first actor, let's try William Holden. 1. Network 2. Stalag 17 3. The Wild Bunch 4. Sunset Boulevard 5. The Bridge on the River Kwai 6. Our Town 7. Sabrina 8. Picnic 9. Born Yesterday

I will vote when you pick an actor whose name I know.
/Banter
Or at least put a picture for us less hardcore movie fans.

Great idea, William Holden is the man! I haven't seen much with him, but the movies I have seen are all classics. In terms of his overall performance:
1. Network 2. The Bridge on the River Kwai 3. The Wild Bunch 4. Sunset Boulevard
Hard choice though, all of those films are fantastic. Anyone who doesn't love "The Wild Bunch" and the drunk old man that just wants to spend his money on women and booze is nuts.

Okay, clearly I should have started with a more modern actor. Before I post someone new though, I have a feeling guys like Dracula and Doomsday could add something.

Sorry, been pretty busy lately... and I only half remember some of these movies... and comparing performances as opposed to entire movies is kind of hard...

I dunno if I can rank all of them, but I do think that Stalag 17 is his best performance.

Also... like always... don't pay attention to Dracula. That is NOT Leo's worst performance. This might be one of the most ridiculous things Dracula has ever posted. The Quick and the Dead is one of the few movies where Leo isn't over-acting. And yes, Leo is a notorious over-actor. If you really think Leo DiCaprio is a great actor, I question your sanity. He makes great movies. He works with great filmmakers. But his method of acting is "let me shout as loud as I can." Watch The Quick and the Dead. Witness a Leo DiCaprio who never shouts.

I haven't seen The Quick and the Dead in years, I remember it being quite enjoyable but don't recall DiCaprio's performance in it being particularly memorable. Within DiCaprio's two phases (pretty boy phase and Scorsese accolade phase) he's been a pretty consistent performer so the "worst Dicaprio performance" is not necessarily meant to be that much of an insult.

Oh yeah, I remember The Quick and the Dead now. Didn't really care for it, but I'd say it's probably above 6 on my list

Good to know. By the way... there's a serious lack of Gilbert Grape on your list. You're missing out on "normal" Johnny Depp and the only performance by DiCaprio that actually deserved an Oscar. I mean... who the fuck watched The Fugitive and thought to themselves, "let's give Tommy Lee Jones an Oscar." I think that's why Leo always looks so depressed at the Oscars. The wounds of Tommy Lee Jones beating him haven't healed yet.

If you could provide a complete filmography with the first posts of these, that would be very helpful.
1. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
2. Ed Wood
3. Secret Window
4. Donnie Brasco
5. Edward Scissorhands
6. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
7. Public Enemies
8. Finding Neverland
9. Dead Man
10. The Ninth Gate
11. Blow
12. From Hell
13. Dark Shadows
14. Chocolat
15. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
16. Before Night Falls
17. Sleepy Hollow
18. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
19. Benny & Joon
20. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
21. The Lone Ranger
For the record, I'm ignoring voice performances, cameos and movies like Nightmare on Elm Street and Platoon where he really isn't the focus.
