While we still don’t have confirmation that Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”) will play Ellie in The Last of Us movie, the game’s director and writer of the film script, Neil Druckmann, revealed in an interview with Game Informer (via Gamespot) that a second draft has been completed. In addition, he said a table read of The Last of Us script with “a bunch of actors” recently took place.
Druckmann also echoed a previous statement on adapting the story to film, saying it’s faithful to the tone of the game but isn’t a carbon copy of the its plot.
“(It’s) Pretty faithful to the game. There are some big changes, but the tone and what the story’s trying to say is pretty faithful to the game.”
Druckmann is also hard at work on Naughty Dog’s upcoming title Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and revealed when he’s not working on the newest adventure of Nathan Drake, he’s working on The Last of Us feature.
“When I’m in the office, it’s all Uncharted 4 all the time,” he said. “When I should be sleeping, it’s the Uncharted movie….Yeah, sorry, The Last of Us movie.”
An Uncharted feature film is also in development, though Druckmann reaffirmed he had no hand in that film. It features a script by Mark Boal, will be directed by Seth Gordon, and is set for release on June 10, 2016.
The Last of Us follows hardened survivor Joel and Ellie, a young and capable girl, on their journey through a radically transformed world. Set twenty years after an infectious pandemic spread by the cordyceps virus ravaged the course of humanity, these two people, who were brought together by chance, must make life-altering decisions in order to survive. The Last of Us explores themes of survival, loyalty, love, and redemption in an emotionally charged expedition across a post-epidemic United States.
Druckmann will co-produce the film along with Naughty Dog Co-Presidents’ Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, Game Director Bruce Straley, and Sam Raimi via the Ghost House Pictures banner.
