I actually liked this one. There were enough character moments to keep me interested.

It didn't win me over. I found it too preachy.

That wasn't great, but it felt like a classic MOTW episode structure, and Mr. Chuckleteeth was a cool look

Everything MOTW was good, great at times.
Mythology stuff has sucked for a while, this season didn't break that trend. Guess that other showrunner that Gilligan liked must've been he one that reigned Carter in.

I'm about to wrap up my current Netflix series project, The West Wing (only have 2 episodes of that left to watch), and this is one of the series I'm considering starting next. So, I guess I have to ask those who've seen it: is it worth it? I've heard a lot of mixed opinions from various people about it over the years, but I feel like it's something I need to finally see, given its cultural significance. And since Fringe is my personal favorite show ever, The X-Files seems like a natural show for me to check out. Eight years later, and I'm finally following up on this. Only two episodes in as of now, but I'm intrigued.

The sets they used for the FBI building in particular were pretty laughable.

I just finished the first "Monster of the Week" episode, Squeeze, and yeah, it definitely feels...for lack of a better term, TV-ish, but they ARE making good use out of mood and atmosphere already. I'm very interested to see how the show evolves. I have to imagine they started stepping up their game, production-wise, around Season 2.

Yeah. In first season it was pretty much the little show that could. Still some banger writing though.

I think I prefer the cheaper version of the show. I think it played better to the notion that Mulder was a bit of a conspiracy nut and Scully was constantly second guessing him. By the time they got to the first movie, the show got a little too big for its own good and they had dragged out the serialized portion of the show.

Going smooth. I'm now eighteen episodes into Season 1, and I'm still really liking it. I read that this first season was mostly standalone episodes with very minimal connection/arc storytelling, if any, because Chris Carter and the team were still trying to figure the show out but also make sure it wasn't overly reliant on the mythology. Which makes sense, because this was before serialized storytelling had really been cracked on network TV. Plus, the episodes by themselves are largely entertaining and engaging (Ice and Beyond the Sea are two of the standouts so far, among others), particularly now that I'm deeper into the season and they're starting to develop each Mulder and Scully more. But I am looking forward to when the show starts getting more into the overarching stories, to see how those go. But I have still legitimately been enjoying a good number of the Monster of the Weeks; they've been handled well.

Early on, I heavily favored the mythology episodes, but as the series went along, they kinda wrote themselves into the wall. I’m not sure they ever resolved the whole Mulder’s sister thing.
