8 1/2 really blew my young mind. If I had to pick, it would probably be my favorite film by him. I then discovered Pasolini, Antonioni, and a few other Italian directors--and I pretty much forgot all about Fellini, to be honest. I guess Italian neo-realism resonated with me for some reason? Who knows.

Airplane! You're trying to start a riot today. I agree with a lot of these. The ones I don't: 1936 - I get they wanted to give Astaire/Rogers most famous collaboration some love and Chaplin had already been listed for 1931, but there's no fucking way Swing Time is better than Modern Times. The former is a fun musical with charm and wit, but the latter is a transcendent masterpiece. 1940 - For all the love this list throws Howard Hawks, I'm surprised they didn't acknowledge His Girl Friday's complete Oscar shut-out. The Shop Around the Corner is cute, but His Girl Friday is a lot sharper in its writing and direction. 1941 - Putting The Lady Eve ahead of Sullivan's Travels is a bold choice. 1943 - Okay, to be fair, I haven't seen The Leopard Man, but I suspect The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp is a greater snub. 1952 - Ikiru is a much better film, but I get why Singin' in the Rain is perhaps the more egregious snub. 1959 - In general, Rio Bravo is kind of overrated, but it especially didn't deserve a Best Picture nod over The 400 Blows, North by Northwest, or Some Like It Hot. 1962 - I like Cleo from 5 to 7 a lot, but not more than The Manchurian Candidate, Harakiri, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Days of Wine and Roses, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Jules and Jim, or even Dr. No. 1977 - Suspiria is cool, but Eraserhead is better. 1980 - Airplane over The Shining and The Empire Strikes Back is lunacy. Don't @ me. 1983 - I dig The King of Comedy, but Videodrome is arguably superior and easily more important to Cronenberg than Comedy is to Scorsese. 1986 - Blue Velvet is cool, but The Fly is perfect. 1988 - The anime trifecta of My Neighbor Totoro, Akira, and Grave of the Fireflies surpass Who Framed Roger Rabbit. 1992 - Dracula is stylish and fun, but Malcolm X is a masterpiece. 1999 - Being John Malkovich not being nominated is definitely a snub, but this whole year was stacked. The Matrix, Fight Club, Magnolia, Three Kings, Eyes Wide Shut - busy year. 2007 - I love the shit out of Zodiac, but The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is better. 2013 - I will never understand the insane love for Frances Ha.

Zodiac is great, Frances Ha fandom is inexplicable, and I also agree on Airplane!/Shining
I also like how the focus is just in what film was snubbed from nomination.
We all know Raging Bull and Goodfellas should've won their years. This exercise is a bit more fun.

Can't get anything past you can I?
Though I only gave it a 7 and sadly wanted to like the film more and share your praise for it.
