Regarding the whole debate, as long as I can still buy Blu Rays at reasonable prices I don't really care. Blu Ray still offers the best presentation and it's also a good way to express oneself through decoration. Agreed. Streaming may have the edge regarding requiring no physical storage space, but Blu Ray has it beat in nearly every other way, IMO.

I think that one of the reasons DVDs and Blu Rays is falling is because of how little extra content is on them compared to when they first came out. Also there is now multiple releases of the same movie with, new content never before seen. That makes certain people wait for the definitive edition of the physical copies. I watch everything that gets included on the disk, but when you only have a quick 15 minutes of extras and like many have said no real interesting commentary...even I don't want to pick it up.

No, the main reason its failing is because people are lazy.

For $2 you can convert your Blu-Ray's into digital copies stored in the cloud. All you need to do is download the Vudu app and scan the barcode of your Blu-Ray's case. Wanna upgrade your DVD to 1080p? Do the same, except it'll cost you $5.

Yeah, blu-rays are going to become a niche market in a few years. I think I'm making peace with that. I'll just participate in the niche.

Physical media took a bullet today. One of the niche distributers, Twilight Time, announced they're shutting down this summer and is clearing their inventory.
I think I only have four TT discs. I have How to Steal a Million and Two for the Road, because of my Audrey Hepburn crush. I have Snake in Eagle's Shadow/Drunken Master for my Jackie Chan collection. I also have Mad Magician, which I actually own for a pair of Three Stooges shorts they released in 3D.
But they were probably constantly losing money. They only do limited runs and seemed to be in it for love more than profit. The movies that seemed to seek the best were the instant sell out genre flicks like 70's King Kong, 80's The Blob, and the remake of Night of the Living Dead.

Are there that many people seeking out the King Kong and Blob remakes?

Twilight Time is a company I wanted to like more than I did. They mostly seemed to barter in titles that were just below the threshold of something I would want to own. The fact that their stuff wasn't available on Amazon didn't help and they also didn't tend to have their discs reviewed on the sites I normally frequent and that often made me hesitate to buy.

Are there that many people seeking out the King Kong and Blob remakes? You'd be surprised how many horror fan are like "Oh, maybe on a sale...LIMITED TO 3000?!?!? BUY NOW BUY NOW BUY NOW!" The Blob was re-released by Scream, so the limited run is meaningless now.

Are there that many people seeking out the King Kong and Blob remakes? The Blob remake is really good. Same people that made Dream Warriors. Chuck Russell & Frank Darabont.

The Blob remake is better than the King Kong remake, I'll give it that. I've always found it entertaining in spurts rather than the whole thing though.
And the whole government angle. Did the Blob really need a "Fuck 'The Man'" message?

Did the Blob really need a "Fuck 'The Man'" message? The original Blob was an “okay, Boomer” movie. So..... anti-establishment was always a theme.

I need to watch the first Blob again. All I remember is blob eating people and Steve McQueen being a 50 year old still in high school.

My copy of The Blob (1988) is from Tristar. I checked out their website, and I have to say I'm not impressed with their selection of titles. Snake in Eagle's Shadow/Drunken Master is the only disc that interests me at all, and I already own Drunken Master by itself.

Yup. I saw that episode. I 100% agree with him too because we're already seeing digital self censorship. Just look at the Simpsons pulling Stark Raving Dad just because it had Michael Jackson in it. I get that he's controversial right now, but he was the world's hottest pop star in 1991 and the episode is a time capsule to that. Instead of trusting viewers to choose whether they want to watch it or not, they're like "Nope. You can't have it."
I mean, I'm not going to cry a river if I never have to watch Cannibal Holocaust again, but if it was kept from the people who wanted to see it because of its problematic filmmaking (which I 100% get the objection to), that's something I don't agree with. There are people who skipped the Joe Bob episode saying "I just can't watch that movie," and Joe Bob respected the decision and it's why he leaked the title early to let people choose if they wanted to tune in or not. But nobody told him to not air it because everyone made a big boy decision of whether or not they wanted to watch it.

That wasn't MJ. It was Leon Kompowsky.
Seriously though, fuck Disney if they've cancelled that ep. Utter wankers.
