I'm imagining an alternate universe where Biden drops out in 2022, then every time his successor had a bad day these same pundits freak out and say "OMG, bring back the guy with a proven track record of beating Trump, what are you fools doing?" and then today we have the chosen nominee stepping down and endorsing a renewed Biden re-election nomination.

I think much of today's activity is less optimism and excitement over Kamala and more Democrats circling the wagons because let's face it, she's never been popular with anybody at all. We're three months and change from the election and Democrats don't have a nominee because they've tried to paper over Biden's obvious health issues for the past 3 years until they couldn't anymore. If he had actually said he was going to be a one term President they could have locked in someone good, almost certainly better than Kamala but now they're forced to roll the dice with her. I just don't think she'll be able to pull away enough independents or soft Republicans especially when Trump is surging. Other Democrats could probably do that which I'm sure is frustrating for a lot of them. Still 3+ months to go though which is a lifetime in election cycles so who knows, we'll just have to see what she can be unburdened by what has been.
