The appeals process is slow and a decision likely won't come down until after the election. Even Democrat pundits though are saying that the odds of a successful appeal are quite good and should Trump lose the election and win his appeal the Republicans aren't going to take it lying down. There will be lots of 'election interference' and 'threat to democracy' chants that red states will line up behind to use as a battle cry for the next four years. Should Republicans maintain control of the House, expect them to move forward with Biden impeachments no matter how trivial regardless of which party controls the Senate, the gloves will come off. Should Trump win, something that even now certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility, expect four years of every single person with the last name Biden or part of the Biden administration to be investigated and indicted for jaywalking or spitting on the sidewalk. Lastly, I think Democrats thought just indicting Trump would be the end of his campaign. Instead he's been leading in polls for weeks and his approval rating has only gotten higher while Biden's hasn't been lower. Today's verdict also might not have the desired effect.
The ruling is unprecedented for sure but the one thing that's certain is this only going to widen the already huge divide in this country. The next few months aren't going to be good no matter how things play out.

Even Democrat pundits though are saying that the odds of a successful appeal are quite good This feels like an overstatement to me. The analysis I've been hearing has appeal success at non-zero, but a bit of a hike. The most likely scenario for a successful appeal that I've heard is similar to the Harvey Weinstein case, where evidence and testimony were heard that only served to sour the jury's perception of the defendant, skewing the verdict to guilty and tainting the trial into mistrial territory. There was a lot of scrutiny on Stormy Daniels' testimony that will probably be run through a fine-tooth comb on appeal, because she added a lot of details that were out of bounds of what her testimony was supposed to be. On the other hand, Trump's attorneys missed a host of objection opportunities during it and it was even called out by the judge, then tried to plead for a mistrial anyway because of their lack of action. It does look like the judge had a lot of Daniels' offending testimony stricken from the record, the question is whether that action is enough. Outside of that, most of Trump's offerings for appeal details (at least, from what I heard from the attorney interview on CNN) are basic "throw shit at the wall" tactics which are unlikely to work. Stay of sentence is still a coin toss, though.

A lot will hinge on how much testimony the defense felt was prejudicial/not relevant and the definition of the specific crime that would elevate the charges to a felony. There are definitely points for an appellate court to consider but again that process won't start until after the sentencing and likely won't conclude until after the election. Now the question is whether he's going to be locked up and if he does, well, things are going to get very, very ugly.

Trump himself doesn't have sway in security this time, so hopefully not. I'm certain we'll have more stable precautions in place.
But precautions were put in place all trial and barely anybody showed up, so...who knows?

Unfortunately, he’ll appeal and drag it past the election. This is something Trump will certainly try to do. There is a speedbump in that though because, from my understanding, it's judge's discretion as to whether not he serves sentence while appeal is being processed. While I do follow a few base things law-related for funzies, I don't know off the top of my head whether it's this court or the appeals court that makes that decision. Either way, there are still odds that Trump will be serving by the time the election rolls around. This is the first time Trump has ever been convicted of a felony, and he's 77 years old. The odds that the court will delay implementing a prison sentence (if there is one) until after the appeal are very high. Non-violent felons are typically given far more leniency in matters like this.

Love that gotcha style that backfires.
And welp now Georgia is dead and Florida is dead. What's next? Arizona? Let's place bets on what we think will happen next.
Gave us the chumpy campaign finance fraud and punted on everything else.
Starting to think this trump guy might be pretty good at dodging lawsuits.

This could have been a night where things turned around for either candidate, especially Biden.
Instead, barring sudden death, we're staring down the barrel of an imminent Trump second term. Buckle up.

Scotus tosses Chevron decision. Gotta think immunity will be decided as they walk out for summer recess.
Republicans have always been awful pretty much exclusively forever but man have they really good twisted into something I couldn't have predicted.
I'm further embarrassed to be an American.
Stewart's last podcast ep was interesting - I hadn't considered it - we pretend we have inspired all the other democracies in the world but not a single one of them are a two party system. No one thinks that's a good idea except the two parties. And the Senate remains the least democratic institution maybe in the world.

They have to, there's no alternative. I was reading how even if people did want to remove him and replace him with someone else, in some states it's too late to take him off the ballot. Last night was the biggest and best opportunity for Biden to assuage peoples' fears about his age and mental fitness and he did the exact opposite. He had a rally today in which he apparently was much more on point but for a lot of people the damage is done. His only hope now is that Trump steps in it big time and that's certainly not out of the question.

Maybe Trump will sleep with another porn star by then.
