Donald Trump isn't attending the White House Correspondent Dinner. A President hasn't skipped it since Reagan got shot in 1981. I hope they roast Trump. Burn him.

Betsy DeVos being criticized for calling Black colleges a school of choice instead of necessity. You see, back in the day when racism was more in your face, most Black people weren't given the opportunity for a good education. These underfunded Black colleges were the best they could do. But since Betsy DeVos is a rich White lady who lives in a bubble and never stepped a foot inside a school, she thinks Black colleges were the equivalent of a Charter school or Private school. And this is how the Trump administration ends Black History Month. From "I hear Fredrick Douglass is doing good work" to "Black colleges gave students more options."

This VOICE idea is collosally stupid.
There at least 3 government agencies that already do this job, irrespective of the perpetrators have brown skin. They're called police.
It's not like they've all decided, "oh, you're an undocumented immigrant? Go ahead, murder/steal away!"
For fuck's sake, politicians and the media should be calling him on this shit and stop slobbin' his knob over reading a teleprompter and managing to eek out coherent sentences.

There comes a point where things start slipping into Republicans-calling-Obama-the-Antichrist-and-secret-muslim-terrorist territory.
VOICE is falling under the auspice of ICE, so I just see it as a structural organization or re-organization.
I think any country has the right to express concerns and expect government involvement if the perception is that crime in the context of illegal immigration is a rising problem. I've had a friend's parents end up in a coma after a hit-and-run, in which the person responsible fled the scene. The cops went on to comment it was probable someone who didn't want to get deported if the cops showed up was responsible because of how rampant that scenario is. These things happen, people want a response. It's not meant to be a racist initiative. I do put stock in people shirking responsibility for their actions because of fear of deportation - I have countless stories from friends and the local news about countless manslaughter (as in someone died), hit and runs, etc., where the perpetrator was caught down the road (figuratively and literally) and fled because they aren't here legally. Shut that shit down, move on to the next issue. It's not that big of a deal, I don't understand the backlash against it. Yes, unfortunately, some families are going to get caught up in the process of the law being carried out, but that's the due process for breaking the law.
Is there a bigger conversation to be had about making it easier to immigrate here in certain circumstances? Sure. My mom is an immigrant, I just got out of a rather lengthy relationship with a foreigner, so I know it's not the easiest and most affordable road, but the answer isn't "I'll just sneak in." Shit's got consequences.

I was calling out a legitimate concern regarding undocumented immigrants and one valid reason out of many people would want the law upheld.

I was calling out a legitimate concern regarding undocumented immigrants and one valid reason out of many people would want the law upheld. And I was explaining why increased deportations wouldn't solve that and why it wasn't that legitimate a concern in the first place. So, in the context of this one example (of which there are countless many), if the rise of hit and runs can be attributed to undocumented, uninsured motorists, then how would being more vigilant about removing said undocumented, uninsured motorists not help the issue and alleviate the concern? I'm asking a genuine question as this whole issue is a head-scratcher, to me. I made the point that I empathize with immigration woes, but I'm not sure why part of the country has taken such issue with us being stricter about enforcing the laws as written. The law is in place to mitigate concerns and issues when the law is broken. I pointed to one such concern, of many, and it seems like you're just trying to deflate or undermine that one example rather than give the entire issue its due conversation.

Well, you don't seem to be suggesting that immigrants are inherently worse drivers, just that when they do get in a car accident they are more prone to flee the scene. On its face this hardly seems to be even close to the biggest problem that the country is facing and certainly not something that requires the expense of extra law enforcement much less a giant wall to say nothing about the humanitarian concerns. Furthermore it would seem that extra enforcement would actually exasperate rather than in any way solve the problem. Immigrants would just even more afraid of law enforcement and more prone to flee the scene. It would seem that if you really want to put a stop to these hit and run incidents it would be much easier to license and insure undocumented drivers (as some states have tried to do) and allow some sort of sanctuary for motorists and witnesses who stop to do the right thing.
