He made fair points. I mean, yes, it's always been completely absurd to me that these people see Trump as their ally when he is the exact embodiment of greed, squeezing the little people, and benefitting from a capitalistic system that prevents someone with his wealth from ever truly failing in our society.
But I get it that California also has a host of problems and bureaucracy is expensive, slow, and many times just doesn't work. Do I think she should've stormed the Capitol? No. Do I empathize with her for trying to run a business and being screwed by financial institutions that do that to millions of people in this country every day? Absolutely. But it's not excuse for becoming radicalized and being part of an insurrection against the government that, if they had gotten their way, would've resulted in the kidnapping and assassination of members of Congress. Then again, maybe the point he's making is that dire actions are the only way to get these people to pay attention?
Either way, it's still baffling why Trump is their savior; the Manhattan billionaire asshole who has a history of not paying small contractors and fucking people over because he has more money and lawyers than they do. For me, that's where I lose some of my ability to fully empathize and understand these people because they're looking for someone to blame and not someone to create solutions.

Many years from now, my grandchildren are going to ask me what it was like living under a President who was so full of shit. I'm just going to sit there in PTSD silence.

This interview happened four months ago. It's almost spooky.

He mentions a lot of the stuff we've discussed before in the California thread. Overregulation, burdensome codes, fees, local governments telling you how much you can charge etc., leads to developers building in Nevada and Arizona. Lately the cool kids up north have been discussing the latest new taxes they want to throw down. Not only has a wealth tax been discussed but they've even mentioned how they want businesses and high-income individuals to pay California taxes for up to 10 years after they leave the state. How they think they can do that is beyond anyone's comprehension but it's California, no one said it had to make sense.

Let’s do it.

I don’t know about well-prepared & coordinated.
Democrats and the media need to call it what it is. Dumb rednecks stormed the capital. They showed smart people that it can be done, and so now, we need to make sure it never happens again. Same with Trump. Imagine if Trump wasn't incompetent? We’d be Nazi Germany right now. Use this as a wake-up call. Don’t let this be our 1993 twin tower attack.

The narrative is already shifting on the right... Went from this is a disgrace to... Well it wasn't as bad as antifa.
I expect that thought process to dominate by 2024.

A lot of my "favorites" were there. The early "what are we getting into?" inauguration lies, the windmill lie, and Sharpiegate. I think missing was when he lied about the Yankees asking him to throw out the first pitch a day after Fauci was allowed to. I...just can't...

Trump's windmill lie did prove that he does actually care about another living being: birds. He really should've found a way to squeeze the whole "end bird graveyards" narrative into his campaign. I think it would've swung the election.

Of course Trump’s last day in office is on the 20th anniversary of Donnie Darko.

If you and SnoBorderZero move to Atlanta, I’ll come too. Tyler Perry Studios. Let’s do it. What's funny is that a lot of film industry people are using this opportunity to move elsewhere, Texas, Georgia, etc. and set up a permanent remote station and this past year as demonstrated that many crews can deliver big budget films and shows from home. I would be lying if I told you the Mrs. and I haven't been strongly considering doing the same. The unfortunate reality about southern California is that if you're a young professional in your 20s or 30s then the idea of simply owning a home just isn't possible. Most people will never be able to afford a down payment and instead are spending a bulk of their income on rent wherever they can afford it, usually to the tune of 20K-30K a year. Just in rent. All of that is shitty because a lot of people like me were born and raised here, our parents are here, everything we're familiar with is here but we'd almost be stupid to stay long-term. Los Angeles is a fun place to sow your wild oats, party, do cool stuff but when you get some gray hairs like us and want to take those next life steps literally anywhere is more appealing and certainly more manageable.

That's certainly understandable. The amount of money people in LA pay in rent is comparable to a house payment in most of the rest of the nation. Not a cheap home in a lousy neighborhood, either. 20K-30K per year would get you a huge home on a ten year mortgage.

Trump’s Presidential Library I remember laughing at the article I read about Dubya's Presidential Library, and it's description of the various interactive exhibits there. I can hardly imagine what a trump library is going to be like. I suspect it will have a lot in common with the creationist museum, and will attract the same sorts of people.

There'll be an entire wing just of copies of The Art of the Deal.

There'll be an entire wing just of copies of The Art of the Deal. Presidential Libraries are primarily museums. They're called libraries because they include loads of archived documents regarding the Presidency of the subject. Of course, it's entirely possible that trump and his people are completely unaware of this little detail. Even so, I'd expect a whole lot of video screens featuring trump blathering nonsense, paintings and sculptures of trump. It's going to be made for him, after all, and trump doesn't like to read. He likes to watch TV.
