I wish it were just Los Angeles but it's also San Diego, Orange, Alameda, Sacramento counties and the entire Bay area. But are those issues prevalent in other Blue states? That’s what Dracula is asking. This might not be a Democrat issue but a California issue. Arnold Schwarzenegger was your governor until 2011. Did all these issues pop up after he left or did they exist during his tenure?

The point is that California is an example of a state that is controlled by one party and it's leading to bad results which can happen going both directions, I just wonder what it is about the 'blue states' that people in a state like Texas want to emulate considering how thousands of people are going from California to Texas and not vice versa. But yeah, Seattle has had these problems. People say 'Amazon and Starbucks destroyed Seattle' but the response from their city council, to tax large and small businesses through the nose to fund social programs with questionable results, has only made their housing problem worse. The difference is that a lot of those taxes are local so people can move to the suburbs and commute or work remotely. And that was before Covid even hit. It's the same principle in a more focused area.

While I do think that Texas is eventually going to move purple, it's a slow process. The number of rednecks here is staggering. The number of democrats who don't bother to vote here is equally staggering. Convincing a non-voting democrat to vote in Texas is like talking to a brick wall. They will completely agree with everything you say about the reason republicans win is due to people like themselves who don't show up on Election Day, and how they're only hurting themselves by being lazy or indifferent, but in the end nothing changes. So I've had this conversation a bunch over the past couple years and maybe you can shed light on some stuff. When people say they want to 'make Texas blue' what exactly are they aiming to do? I'm a CA man as you probably know and everybody who lives here knows someone or several people who have left to go to Texas or Idaho or Colorado or some other state where they actually can buy a house, increase their spending power, not have to worry about getting stabbed with a rusty syringe by a homeless person, the list goes on. If you live in CA there's a 99.999% chance that you've looked up apartments/houses similar to yours just to see how much less you would be paying if you moved literally anywhere else. Why wife brings it up frequently that Los Angeles is a pretty crummy place to raise a family and I don't think it would take much at all to make her leave. Fortunately my job keeps us grounded here at least for the foreseeable future. I'll be honest, I vote blue in national elections but good lord is it becoming next to impossible to justify voting for Democrats at the local or state level outside of 'well they're still better than Republicans.' Fortunately for Democrats all the Republicans have left so they have nothing to worry about. I know that one-party rule can wreck a state, look at the Republicans in Kansas and yeah, look at the Democrats in California. We've got a lot of great stuff here, the weather, entertainment, tons of travel opportunities from forests and mountains to beaches and deserts. We also have some of the highest taxes, highest housing costs, highest homeless rates, highest income inequality and the folks in charge are simply unable or unwilling to do much about it short of passing new bills that usually just make things worse. So when people say 'make Texas blue' what part of a blue state like California, if any, are you guys hoping to adopt? I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything, I just know a lot of people who have moved to Texas and Colorado and when they hear people say 'make Texas Blue' they go 'what the hell is the matter with you?' If it's social stuff like abortion rights, LGBT issues and such, that I understand, I get it. But if it's 'hey we need more rent control' or 'hey we need to adopt a state income tax' well.... There are a couple of factors involved. The first is that Democrats tend to have far less embarrassing candidates, while Texas is saddled with morons like Ted Cruz and Louie Gohmert who say something stupid at every opportunity. The others are social issues and justice reform. As someone who works in a courthouse, I can attest to how over policed minority neighborhoods are. I see the results every day.

I don't know much about Texas' criminal justice system other than their penchant for the death penalty. There was a time where I didn't care about it one way or the other until I saw just how many people are exonerated each year due to DNA testing that wasn't available at the time of conviction and are subsequently released from death row. Scary. And yeah, Ted Cruz comes across like a vacuum salesman.

Earlier this year I finally had to replace the vacuum cleaner my Grandma bought from a door to door salesman in the mid-80's. It was a quality product.

Trump complaining that Biden wouldn't get tough questions followed by Biden getting tough questions was kind of amusing.

Trump complaining that Biden wouldn't get tough questions followed by Biden getting tough questions was kind of amusing. Flashback to June: Running a re-election campaign is vastly different than an election campaign because most of your time and energy is spent doing your job. It’s the equivalent of applying for a new job while still working 40-hours a week at your current job. Think back to 2012 and how “rusty” Obama came across in comparison to 2008. The strategy of a re-election campaign is to run on the merits of your Presidency. Obama, for instance, restored the job market. Even if that meant getting Walmart and McDonalds to hire everyone. ObamaCare was launched. Even if that was filled with loads of compromises. Bin Laden was killed under Obama’s watch. What exactly has Trump accomplished in the past 4 years that would appeal to the average citizen? Nothing. Nothing at all. The guy literally has nothing to talk about. What exactly would his campaign promises be? Built a wall — but in Canada this time? Trump’s got nothing. If the election were held today he would lose in a landslide. That’s why in the coming months it’s VERY important to pay attention to the Republican’s. Voter Repression will be a major issue this year. We gotta make sure Republicans don’t use Mail-In Voting or Covid 19 or whatever as an excuse to create roadblocks for voters. We are one week away from the election. Nothing has changed. Trump has nothing. Nothing. That’s why he’s crying about “tough questions.” He doesn’t even have answers to soft questions. His entire campaign strategy is to bitch & moan about Biden. 60 Minutes wasn’t gonna let him do that and so he bailed.

Film Twenty-Six: Frankenstein Created Woman (1967) This fourth Hammer Frankenstein is one that takes a slightly different and perhaps not advisable approach. Dr. Frankenstein himself is more on the periphery of the film than usual and it instead focuses heavily on an assistant of his who has a crush on this one girl but then gets framed for a crime and gets executed and then his girlfriend kills herself and this inspires Frankenstein to transfer the assistant’s soul into the girlfriend’s body and then re-animate her, but then he/she starts trying to kill the people who framed the assistant. That is a hell of a lot of setup before it actually gets to anything really supernatural or Frankenstein-like and when it does finally get going you’re basically just dealing with a normal looking woman rather than a stitched together corpse which is really not what you come to these movies for. Beyond that the whole soul-swapping thing here really doesn’t make much sense; is it the assistant controlling her? Is the assistant speaking to her? And why bother tranfering this particular soul? The rules are never clear and neither is the movie. The movie isn’t nearly as provocative as it could be with the female Frankenstein’s monster thing and this generally isn’t the Hammer Frankenstein anyone should go to at first. **1/2 out of Five
Bonus Film: Jeepers Creepers (2001) There is some debate in the world of horror fandom about the morality of supporting the Jeepers Creepers franchise given that their writer/director was a convicted child molester who served a prison sentence prior to making the film. It’s a debate I would feel more inclined to engage with if not for the fact that there’s nothing in this, his most famous film, to suggest he was even a big enough talent to be worth the fuss. I’ll give it this; the central monster looks kind of cool, especially when he’s got that long coat on and is sort of cloaked in mystery and I sort of do like the fact that you never entirely know what his “deal” is. But the human characters here (including a pre-Apple Justin Long) are pretty insufferable and the movie just as some really odd elements to its story like the integration of “Jeepers Creepers” the song and this old lady who shows up half way through to talk about picturing the whole thing in a dream or something… it’s all rather weird. The film occasionally makes self aware jokes, as was the trend in horror movies at the time, but to little effect and I found a lot of the camera work to be less than stellar. There are moments here and there that point toward a more interesting and better realized movie having been possible, but this ain’t it. *1/2 out of Five
