Like I said, what I was talking about was how I thought the Democrats had lost voters and how I thought they were doing a bad job at getting them back, not fighting racism overall.
Let's discuss this from a different angle. In your opinion why is it that Democrats have lost so many seats nationwide? Do you think it's strictly Republican scheming or do you think that Democrats have dropped the ball somehow in terms of message or delivery? Not trying to be condescending or anything, I'm just curious.

The fact that young voters have a nasty habit of not turning up to midterms is a lot of it, which led to a lot of gerrymandering after they lost a bunch of statehouses in the 2010 election. As such, much as Hilary won the popular vote but lost the election, you run into a situation where Republicans only got 49.9 percent of the vote in house elections in 2016 but still won 55.2 percent of the house seats. Similarly, the makeup of the Senate is stacked against Democrats too, less out of cheating and more out of the founder's "brilliant" compromise which gives Wyoming the same number of senators as California and New York. In general, Democrats tend to have a more national view of politics and that bites them in the ass sometimes.

Fair enough, but I would add that Democrats need to work on their marketing as well if they want to attract those voters in the middle. Republicans aren't much better at it but they can convince people that they're being screwed even when they're not which gets a lot of people on board.

Fair enough, but I would add that Democrats need to work on their marketing as well if they want to attract those voters in the middle. Republicans aren't much better at it but they can convince people that they're being screwed even when they're not which gets a lot of people on board. Marketing can always be improved, but an over abundance of concern about winning "the middle" can be dangerous too. If Democrats try to stay centrist while the Republicans keep going further and further to the right suddenly the middle stops being the middle. That's kind of what happened with the Affordable Care Act: the Democrats came out with a super centrist plan, basically a modification of a proposal the Republicans made in the 90s, but the Fox News machine still treated it like it was some radical act of communism and the next thing you know the Democrats were stuck whittling away at an already moderate proposal to the point where it isn't nearly as effective as it needed to be. If you wonder why the Democrats haven't come out with competing proposals on issues like immigration and infrastructure, that's why. It's also what more or less happened with Hilary. The Democrats put forward a reasonable centrist and it blew up in their faces. That's why the Bernie faction of the party is increasingly questioning the logic of chasing after the fickle "middle" that just ends up staying home on Election Day and instead excite the base into better turnout. I'm not personally persuaded by that approach yet, but there is a logic to it.

There is an appalling lack of humanity and basic empathy on the right. I hope they will be punished for this for decades to come but looks like the supporters just cheer them on. Yet again they disgust me fully.

“I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13 to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained them for the purpose of order,”
He added: “Orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves and protect the weak and lawful "
Jeff Sessions using a Bible quite to defend the immigration policy that separates children from their families.
Meanwhile, the CPS gets further clogged with children waiting at least three times longer than the law says they should to get placed in foster care.
Just another sad chapter in the way America has treated minorities in our over two hundred years.

Yeah, and the Nazis were enforcing the hell out of laws when they were liquidating the Warsaw Ghetto. Bet they cited the same bible verse too.

Trump just took credit for bringing the World Cup to America in 2026, of course he did (Thanks Obama!) And again, he said the Inspector General just invalidated the whole Mueller Investigation....yeah, pull the other one, he only looked into Comey's conduct and while he found it unbecomming, there was nothing criminally wrong with it. What a swell guy! (his head, that is...swollen)

I was waiting on a professor for a meeting for a while and decided to kill time my re-reading old posts in this thread. Decided to continue that today by skimming through this thread's history while listening to "In Utero" and man was that a fucking trip. Remember Duke-Leto's insane, endless rambling about Planned Parenthood conspiracy? I know we don't have a lot of members around and it maybe isn't smart to throw shade at those who have left, but seriously, fuck that guy. I think Jibbs was also the first person to correctly call that Trump would win and even when people seemed super confident Hillary had it in the bag Jibbs accurately predicted liberals wouldn't show up to vote. So kudos to you, Jibbs. I will henceforth know to respect your prophetic powers.
Also, Neverending, those Johnny Quest/Mike Pence and Baron Trump memes are pure gold.

Neat. Where did I say that? I don't have any specifics, but I remember you predicting he'd won very early in his running and later when many posts were all "Hillary is probably gonna win" you explicitly said that overconfidence would lead to people not showing up. Dracula was similarly cautious but you were, to my eyes, the first person to call things.

Yikes is right! I just saw an article that says the democrats are wishing they had pushed harder for Obama's Supreme Court nominee
And then this happened:
The Democratic establishment: Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) is one of the highest-ranking Democrats in the House, and he just lost his job to a 28-year-old member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
Maybe the Blue Tide is going really really left?
