Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams are in talks to join Taika Waititi’s next movie. The actor is in talks for Klara and the Sun, Sony 3000’s adaptation of the novel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Waititi has been attached to the project since the spring, with the film adapting the novel from Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go author Kazuo Ishiguro. The newsletter The InSnieder first reported the news Ortega boarding the project, while Deadline broke news of Adams’ casting.
Ortega has a full slate, recently completing Beetlejuice 2 and also has season two of her Netflix hit Wednesday to film in the coming months. Her feature Miller’s Girl arrives in theaters Jan. 26. Last year, she starred in Scream VI, and made waves by opting not to return to the Spyglass franchise for a seventh installment.
Adams will next appear in Marielle Heller’s Nightbitch from Searchlight. She is a six-time Oscar nominee for roles in films such as Vice, The Fighter and Doubt.
Ishiguro published Klara and the Sun in 2021, with the project told from the point of view of Klara, a robot companion. Ortega will play the robot, while Adams will play a mother who purchases the robot for her teenager.
