Sorcerer (William Friedkin, 1977)- 7/10 Neverending this was a really good film. It feels a little wrong not giving it an 8, but there are narrative decisions that hold it back and the film is very lean in that department to a slight detriment. Also while spectacularly framed, the opening sequences of the men before South America goes on too long and feels like unnecessary exposition that could've easily been done in a couple lines of dialogue instead. Having said that, Sorcerer looks fantastic, and Friedkin directs with so much vigor and intensity that you can't help but be swept up in everything. The bridge scene is excellent, and the ending was cynically smart if not entirely satisfying. This is absolutely Friedkin's best film not named The French Connection or The Exorcist. OMG! Is this why you finally watched Sorcerer? Are you working on the new Sorcerer?? |
