Before Danny Elfman gets cancelled, I figured I’d watch this on the big screen for possibly one last time. I watched the 2006 re-release in 3D, but I also needed that OG 2D experience. Marty & Leo will have to wait a day or two.
Thoughts[/u]
— It goes without saying that the stop-motion animation (headed by Henry Selick) is magnificent. Flawlessly executed. Great attention to detail. Constant camera movement. And I like that it was shot (photographed) on film instead of digital.
— Soundtrack is awesome. I listen to it every October.
— The notion of a Halloween-themed Christmas sounds fun. Jack Skellington did nothing wrong, gosh darn-it.
— I may be repeating myself from 2006, but I love that this is a “Disney movie” now. Touchstone Pictures. That’s water under the bridge. PhantomKnight, do we count this as part of the Disney Renaissance? Is Roger Rabbit still Touchstone? Or that got claimed by Disney too?
— I watched this early-to-mid afternoon, hoping for an immersive experience, but a group of soccer moms and their army of children joined. Surprisingly, most of the kids were into it. Is Doomsday gonna take his kids to watch this, or like Hocus Pocus, is Doomsday gonna claim he’s never watched it?
— As I said, most of the kids dug it. But there’s always pussies in the group. Just like 30 years ago, the kids that can’t handle it, bail out during Jack’s Christmas takeover. That used to piss me off as a kid. That’s the best part in the movie. But some kids gotta be cry babies. They ruined Batman Returns and they ruined Nightmare Before Christmas. Wimps. But I think the filmmakers suspected that’s the part of the movie in which they’d lose some of the kids cause the movie pretty much ends right after that. Jack rescuing Sandy Claw from Oogie Boogie and then shagging up with Sally happens in like 5-10 minutes. Never really gave that much thought until I found myself in a theater with kids that were getting restless by that point. But whatever. The kids that were into it, really loved it, and I guess that’ll be the next generation of Hot Topic customers.
