Story time for Ian. Back in the 1990’s, when Marvel filed for bankruptcy, the company was bought by Toy Biz, whose CEO was Ike Perlmutter. Perlmutter sold Marvel to Disney in 2009 but remained in charge of Marvel until 2015 when Bob Iger demoted him cause he started a feud with Kevin Feige. Perlmutter was put in charge of Marvel COMICS and its subsidiaries. That all being said, Perlmutter is a major shareholder at Disney. Similar to Steve Job’s’ estate and George Lucas, whom sold Pixar and LucasFilm, Perlmutter was largely paid in stocks when he sold Marvel to Disney. Late last year or early this year (can’t remember which), Perlmutter tried to turn the Board of Directors against Bob Iger, and well, Iger struck back. Did Antman help? Sure. But it is not the reason. |

Perlmutter has always been a jackass. He's the reason Black Widow didn't get a solo film before the release of The Avengers (2012), as well as why Captain Marvel (2019) and Black Panther (2018) didn't get the green light until he'd been shuffled out of the way. He's why the planned Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD movie Feige wanted for Phase II never got made. If you're detecting a trend towards not making anything featuring minorities or women, it's not your imagination. He's the man behind the utter disaster that was The Inhumans TV mini-series. He's the guy who hired the guy responsible for The Inhumans to be the show runner for Iron Fist and The Defenders (although on the plus side, The Inhumans, Iron Fist and The Defenders is why Disney took Marvel Television away from Ike). The fact that The Inhumans had been ruined is why we got The Eternals (2021) instead.
Feige had to constantly fight with Perlmutter over budgets, women and race. Feige wanted to make the best movies possible, while Perlmutter wanted to do everything on the cheap, with as many white males as possible. Perlmutter famously once got so petty about expenses that he restricted every reporter on one of the MCU press junkets (people who are essentially providing free advertising) to one bottle of water.

Plus the comics these days under him ... Are kinda shit. Huge brain drain when he took over. Only real stallion in their stable is the guy who made Thor relevant again.

I'm a big fan of the Krakoa Era Xmen stuff. Hickman gets all the credit, but those writers are mostly great in that line and what they were doing previously (Al Ewing on XMen Red and that last Hulk run comes to mind). |
