Well even if it's a piece of shit, it'll be leagues better than the other one. Truly one of the worst movies I've ever seen, inept in every facet with no positives other than laughing at the debacle.

In that case... I better keep my mouth shut. SnoBorder is already pissed off at me about Die Hard.

Haha I'm not pissed at you at all, unless you liked "Super Mario Bros.", then yes I am pissed.
Mario Mario and Luigi Mario. Ugh!

The Super Mario Bros. movie might be one of the best-worst movies ever.

I am appalled by your comments. Take. It. Back. But in all seriousness, watch it while you're inebriated (or some variation of that) and tell me it's not undeniably hilarious.

I last watched it in college with friends while being drunk and stoned (the SF cross-fade) and it may have actually soured my mood even more. Hated it, hated it, hated it. Pure dreck.

From the glory days of video game adaptations. The first Mortal Kombat was awesome. And you will never convince me otherwise.

Some would argue Resident Evil since it did actually launch a successful franchise, but I don't care. Mortal Kombat is the gold standard of the genre.

Both of those movies are not good, if those are what's considered the "Citizen Kane" of video game movies then yikes. Paul W.S. Anderson stinks, when your best movie by far is "Event Horizon" then yikes.

At the time I loved the Mortal Kombat movie and enjoyed Mario Bros and even Street Fighter - I was a young teen after all. It wasn't until a few years passed that I saw the latter two for the atrocities they truly were but at the time I remember loving the fact that all my favourite games were being made into movies. Nowadays I'd say that Mortal Kombat certainly looks the part and made the most effort to be faithful to the source material but it, too, is knee deep in crap at times.

Mortal Kombat certainly looks the part and made the most effort to be faithful to the source material but it, too, is knee deep in crap at times. We're a generation raised on video games and I think we tend to give them too much credit. I'm NOT disagreeing with the debate that video games are art. They obviously are! People are creating worlds and characters from scratch. That takes talent. But at the end of the day, it's a game. That's why I appreciate the first Mortal Kombat. It doesn't shy away from what it is. It tried its best to re-create the video game without being pretentious and trying to add more to it. The movie represents everything that's great about the video game and why we played it so obsessively back in the early-to-mid 90's. If you start Nolan-izing these movies you take away the spirit of the gaming experience.

I recognize its by no means a extraoridinary movie but I can still get a kick out it when it's on and I love the fact that it actively pokes fun at itself.

I love the fact that it actively pokes fun at itself. I will never forgive the sequel for killing Johnny Cage. And in the first 5 minutes!
