Isn't Garfield fired at this point? I could be wrong... No, not fired. His status is better described as being in limbo. Garfield still has a contract to play the role, but it is unclear at this point if Sony will exercise it. That decision won't be made until the Spidey Summit in January.

Isn't Garfield fired at this point? I could be wrong... You're missing the point. When Marvel approached Sony about Spider-Man appearing in Civil War, they wanted their own Spider-Man. That's stupid. I don't want some random Spider-Man showing up in Civil War. Garfield or GTFO. That's why Sony turned down the offer.

I'd prefer they stick with Garfield because I think he has done a great job, but if a new actor is what it takes to get Spider-Man into the MCU then I won't complain.

Yeah, this would be like sticking a new Batman into a Superman movie.

Yeah, this would be like sticking a new Batman into a Superman movie. And a new Wonder Woman, and a new Aquaman and a new Cyborg.

Are you agreeing with me? Yes and no. I do agree that it's silly for WB to work backwards from Marvel. But in relations to Spider-Man, it's a different story. Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy is done. Ben Affleck isn't stepping on Christian Bale. But replacing Andrew Garfield for no good reason is messed up.

Well if the audience doesn't like the new series... It might be the best thing to have a spider-man in the avengers verse separate from Raimi and Webb

Well if the audience doesn't like the new series But they love Andrew Garfield & Emma Stone. Does it make sense to remove the two things that are actually working? Well... the ONE thing because they already got rid of Emma Stone.

Box office doesn't say otherwise.... Sony wants the movies to succeed. All these people who love the romance should have showed up when the movie came out.

Reboots seems to be a Spiderman and X-Men , And FF way of exisiting. Only really X-Men seems a mixed bag of crazy in figuring Reboots or just an alternate story line kinda like the new Star Trek.

All this talk of getting Spidey into the Avengers or at least Cap 3... its a great idea and when I first heard it I was like, "Yes, they need to do this!" and I continued to think that way for a long time. Now though I'm really hoping that the Avengers/Marvel powers that be don't try to cram Spider-Man Peter Parker, into a story which ends up ruining the character arcs and development of the characters already firmly established. IMO, and I know its years down the road and the studios want results (money) now, they should inject Spidey into the Avengers franchise in some fashion when the main Avenger characters appear to be setting up to be the likes of Dr. Strange and the Inhumans. Spidey is still a tentpole film commodity and Sony will have to be creative to get him back into the limelight again in a way that doesn't feel botched or rushed. Huge assumption here but based on the Sony leaks info, I think any plan of action for the Spidey franchise would be helpful for fandom. Would love to be a fly on the wall for the upcoming Spidey summit!

Anyone think the SONY The Interview fiasco could have an impact on this decision too?

Judging from those covers, I can kind of see why I never got into comics.

Anyone think the SONY The Interview fiasco could have an impact on this decision too? Not directly, but Sony will want to do something in a public manner to turn around the perception of weakness that is hovering over them because of the PR disaster. New Regency and Fox announced today that they've cancelled another film that was in the works involving North Korea. A well publicized announcement regarding the future of Spider-Man with titles and release dates, along the same lines as the Phase 3 press conference Marvel Studios held would be a good start at turning things around.

Spider-Man Cameo In ‘Captain America: Civil War’ A Done Deal—Report
By Tanya Diente | December 19, 2014 10:42 AM EST
The recent hack into Sony Pictures' servers revealed the studio's plans to collaborate with Marvel for a third sequel to "The Amazing Spider-Man." Likewise, it also detailed the possibility of the superhero making an appearance in "Captain America: Civil War." These plans may seem uncertain, but according to a latest report, studio execs are already planning a meeting to discuss the sequel.
A source told Screengonzo that Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige will meet in January to discuss the future of "The Amazing Spider-Man" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU. The said meeting will reportedly take place at Pinewood Studios, where "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Captain America: Civil War" are believed to have been filming. No further details were provided, but sources said some "good news" will be revealed sometime in February. Likewise, Feige is said to be pleased with where his deal with Sony Pictures is headed.
How the superhero will be featured into the MCU remains uncertain. However, according to the source, one plan is for Spider-Man to make an appearance at the end-credits scene. According to Screengonzo, it would make sense if the character will be featured in "Captain America: Civil War," since the film is scheduled for filming sometime in February or March. It coincidentally links to the mentioned release of the good news in February.
HNGN also thought it's likely for the superhero to be introduced in "Civil War." The movie's directors, brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, will also reportedly helm the sequel. According to Screengonzo writer Josh Johnson, the directors will also "tackle a new Spider-Man trilogy, taking on directing and writing tasks." "They don't have anyone cast yet, but they certainly have a list of potentials they are going over once the deal is done," he said, adding that Marvel is already looking at a list of possible candidates to be the next Spider-Man.
However, it's still uncertain if "The Amazing Spider-Man" will really make an appearance in "Captain America: Civil War." Sony and Marvel have yet to confirm the reports. According to Johnson, the source is the same person who provided the confirmed details of Vision's look in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

This looks like Screengonzo has simply taken the info already available and created a story that more or less matches what is already known. A "Spidey Summit" in January to discuss the future of the Spider-Man movie franchise was already leaked, and it stands to reason that Kevin Feige would be invited to such a meeting to make the case for Marvel Studios becoming more directly involved, so that's nothing new. Another already established source of info is a number of leaked emails between Andrew Gumpert (president of worldwide business affairs) and Amy Pascal (co-chairman) which indicate that Gumpert feels that the deal would be of benefit to Sony. Since that is the case, it would likely take until February to hammer out all the details of a joint venture to the point where they felt comfortable making a public announcement if Sony and Marvel Studios do come to an agreement.

I think calling anything a done deal at this point is way too premature. I suspect something will happen because the Spider-Man franchise needs a boost, but everything is speculation at this point.
By the way, am I the only person who actually enjoyed both of the the ASM movies? I remember them not being all that well received, but I feel like they're getting far more hate now than they did upon their releases.

And the hatred for them is exaggerated on the Internet. Like all things.

I liked the first one, but felt that it was not without it's problems. The second one I found to be disappointing more than anything. There were far too many plot lines being explored for a two hour movie to adequately handle. The plot line involving Peter's parents in particular was a huge waste of time. The set-up for the Sinister Six was out of place and distracting, and seems even worse in retrospect since it doesn't look like that movie is even going to happen now.

Yeah... it bit more than it could chew. But it also had its good parts. The opening scenes with Peter struggling to be Spider-Man were fun. The chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone is still great. I liked Harry Osborne and some of the Oscorp stuff.

I liked the first one (better than the first Raimi film) and I REALLY liked the second one -- it's my 2nd favorite out of all five of the films so far -- so no, you're not alone.

How people like the Webb Spidermans over Raimis is a real head scratcher for me. Too me Tobey should get the Spiderman Offer not Garfield or Marvel should have a new Spiderman for those movies if Sony says ok.
