It's Disney's response to Stranger Things. Granted, Stranger Things banks on nostalgia which is hard to do with a show that takes place in a fictional galaxy but they're looking to expand beyond the stock Star Wars storylines and family trees.

Is it gonna be good Dooms? I'll try to keep it short in case any Disney people are lurking on our boards but I think it's something Star Wars needs. It's its own separate thing and I think it benefits having a couple new creatives behind it (Jon Watts and Chris Ford of Marvel Spider-Man fame). It's trying to be very Goonies-esque and despite what the leaked trailer suggests it still has action, star ships, all things Star Wars. I think the Ahsoka trailer is the talk of the town though. Between that and Mando S3 we've identified the weak link of the Favreau/Filoni partnership. |

Dave Filoni was an animator for Fox, Cartoon Network and Disney but his claim to fame was directing on the critically acclaimed and highly beloved Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender. That brought him to the attention of George Lucas and together they worked on the Clone Wars cartoon series. Filoni was supposed to be Lucas’ successor but J.J. Abrams cockblocked him until the sequel trilogy crash and burned. Then he was rescued by Jon Favreau for the Mandalorian series and he has set out to do what Lucas wanted him to do. Outside of Obi-Wan, Andor and (to some extent) Boba Fett, Filoni is spearheading these Star Wars TV shows, Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew. I think what Doomsday is implying is that Jon Favreau has taken over Mandalorian and Ahsoka/Skeleton Crew will reveal Filoni as the genius in the group. Although Filoni has his detractors cause he has a boner for the extended universe. The Ashoka trailer is getting hype cause it’s bringing in all the extended universe characters that J.J. Abrams pretended didn’t exist. There’s now a possibility the sequel trilogy might get retconned out of existence. |

To add to what NE said, he and Favreau have helped spearhead these live action Star Wars series and although his name is on the Executive Producer list for most of them he's been very zeroed in on Ahsoka the last couple years. He was involved heavily on Mandalorian S1 and 2 but less so on subsequent shows. I don't know if he was even involved at all on Obi-Wan (not a Favreau show) but Boba Fett and Mando S3 are much more products of Favreau than they are Filoni. Take from that what you will but from where I'm sitting Ahsoka looks pretty cool. Boba Fett and Mando season 3 on the other hand... |
