But is it as good as Rocky Horror Picture Show? That's the question on everyone's mind.

Lionsgate to the rescue. The September release date should be a pretty good indication of how (not) confident they are... but at least we know we'll see it.

September is when studios start to roll out their awards films. True, that usually means a festival run, a limited release and then a full expansion after nominations are announced, but Coppola is getting a head start for a divisive film.

September is where they dump movies that they once hoped would be awards contenders but then realized at some point awards weren't going to happen but they still want to save some face by dropping it at a time that's technically in the fall but won't actual benefit from festivals and the like and will still be forgotten come award season.

Hadn't even considered Lionsgate as an option for this, but thrilled they made it happen.

I can only imagine they got it at fire sale prices. Undoubtedly. It doesn't fit their usual catalogue and they know it won't be profitable.

Turns out that Lionsgate already had September 27 held for Saw XI. Hadn't even considered Lionsgate as an option for this, but thrilled they made it happen. I can only imagine they got it at fire sale prices. Coppola asked for $100M marketing budget. He settled for $40M.

Turns out that Lionsgate already had September 27 held for Saw XI I'm sure there's lots of audience overlap between the two. Saw XI was delayed to next year. Lionsgate had a date to fill. I’m sure theaters are grateful too since there’s nothing coming out that weekend other than Wild Robot (DreamWorks). Megalopolis spiced up September too. September 6 — Beetlejuice 2 September 13 — Speak No Evil (James McAvoy thriller) September 20 — Transformers One (animated) / Wolfs (Clooney-Pitt) September 27 — Megalopolis / Wild Robot Although Joker 2 comes out the weekend after, so I’m not expecting Megalopolis to do terribly well, but I don’t think Lionsgate is “dumping it” either. They had the date and did something with it.

This is very high on the pettiness scale. Almost reaching MJ's speech at the bball hall of fame induction level.

Love the pettiness. Love the trailer. Ready for a spectacular mess of a movie.

Ready for a spectacular mess of a movie. Who says you have to wait. You're pushing that movie hard. Are you getting residuals on this re-release?
