This might get a bit more traction.
1971
Top Ten
1. McCabe and Mrs. Miller 2. The French Connection 3. The Last Picture Show 4. A Clockwork Orange 5. Walkabout 6. A Touch of Zen 7. Klute 8. Macbeth 9. Harold and Maude 10. Dirty Harry
The top five here is really great. Almost interchangeable. Mixed feelings about including Dirty Harry. I have a lot of fondness for that movie and Siegel's no-nonsense filmmaking, but I don't know, Kael's assertions of the movie's fascism are not wrong and I grow more uneasy with its depictions of the police with time.
Unseen
1. Wake in Fright 2. The Panic in Needle Park 3. Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets 4. Death in Venice 5. Bay of Blood 6. Two-Lane Blacktop 7. Punishment Park 8. Demons 9. The Cat O'Nine Tails 10. The Decameron
Lots of interesting horror-esque movies from all over the map and the title Throw Awway Your Books, Rally in the Streets is really striking. If I was gonna watch one of these though, I think I'd go with Punishment Park. Sounds like a precursor to stuff like The Hunger Games and even Escape from New York, and the political aspects are intriguing.

1931
Top Ten
1. M 2. Frankenstein 3. City Lights 4. Tabu 5. Dracula 6. The Public Enemy 7. Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde 8. Little Caesar 9. La Chienne 10. Monkey Business
Some of my lists from this era are a bit spotty, but not this one. I think this a great collection of movies, with Universal and Warner making big strides in genre, some farewells to the silent era, and the first sound masterpiece in M.
Unseen
1. Mädchen in Uniform 2. Limite 3. A Nous la Liberte 4. Le Million 5. Night Nurse 6. The 3 Penny Opera 7. Comradeship 8. Marius 9. Possessed 10. Tokyo Circus
Lots of French movies and a bit of G.W. Pabst dominate here. Mädchen in Uniform definitely stands out though. Seems a pretty major work and the only true movie Leontine Sagan got to make as director, even if she technically has two other feature film credits.

Random order I'm using seems to be frontloading a lot of the oldest years first.
1927
Best
1. Metropolis 2. Sunrise 3. The General 4. The Lodger 5. The Kid Brother 6. Wings 7. The Unknown 8. The Jazz Singer 9. King of Kings
Don't let the fact that I don't have enough movies for a full ton ten imply 1927 was a weak year. There's a quality over quantity thing going on as the top 3 in particular are just staggeringly good, though the list does start to peter out after that.
Unseen
1. Napoleon 2. October (Ten Days that Shook the World) 3. Berlin: Symphony of a Great City 4. 7th Heaven 5. Underworld 6. College 7. It 8. The Cat and the Canary 9. The Ring 10. Downfall
Lots of cool looking stuff here, including some unseen Hitchcock, an early gangster film, and one of Eisenstein's most acclaimed films. If I had to pick one though, it's definitely Napoleon. I've had that on the proverbial watchlist for ages now.

Unseen 1. Napoleon 2. October 3. Berlin 4. 7th Heaven 5. It 6. The Cat and the Canary 7. The Ring 8. The King of Kings 9. The End of St. Petersburg 10. The Octopus

I remember watching The Unknown in a film class in college, one of the highlights of that course. So disturbing and good.

Gonna hijack this abandoned PG Cooper thread. Have you guys had an experience with a movie that was the opposite of reality. Let me explain. I revisited Mask of Zorro. Great movie. Still holds up. But it always surprises me to realize that it was barely a top 20 hit in 1998. If you were to ask me, just based on memory, what were the biggest successes of that year, I would surely include Mask of Zorro. I think everyone at school went to watch it in theaters and loved it. Catherine Zeta Jones became a big star of this movie. But nah. It barely cracked the Top 20 in the yearly box office. The fuck? I may have spoken about this in the past, but I had a similar experience with the George Clooney/Marky Mark movie Three Kings. Everyone I knew saw that in theaters and was obsessed with it. Do people in 2023 even know that Three Kings exists?

I'm looking at the top grossing films of 1998 right now and... Patch Adams is in the top ten? What. the. fuck. Patch Adams was famously a flop for Robin Williams, so I’m confused too. It would be understandable if it was an overtly expensive blockbuster, like Bicentennial Man or What Dreams May Come, which didn’t make a profit. No. This is friggin Patch Adams. Then again, maybe we’re living in a Mandela Effect. I could have sworn Jaws’ girlfriend in 007 had braces but it turns out she doesn’t??? I guess we come from a previous universe in which Mask of Zorro was a hit and Patch Adams flopped.
