The Merc with a Mouth has scored a mixed martial artist. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Gina Carano, the MMA champion-turned-actress, has scored a role in the director Tim Miller’s much-anticipated X-Men spinoff, Deadpool. According to the trade, Carano will play Angel Dust, a little known mutant whose ability allows her to elevate her adrenaline levels to provide her with super strength. A member of the underground band of mutants who call themselves Morlocks, Angel Dust has barely appeared in the comics outside of a 2002 “Morlocks” miniseries written by Geoff Johns (who is now much better known for his work with the Distinguished Competition).

Carano joins Ryan Reynolds, T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein in the film, which is also still trying to lock its female lead. Check out a list of six actresses said to be in contention for that part right here. The trade also confirms that, as has long been rumored, Colossus will play a role in the storyline. Although unconfirmed, it is believed that Daniel Cudmore will reprise the part.

Carano is best known for playing the lead in Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire and has also appeared in films like Furious 6 and In the Blood. Check out a recent ComingSoon.net interview with her right here.

Featuring a script from the Zombieland pair of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Deadpool is less than a year away from theaters! Production is slated to begin in Vancouver next month with the film coming to the big screen on February 12, 2016!

Following a bit of a tease yesterday, comedian T.J. Miller has confirmed on Twitter that
he will be playing the role of Weasel in Twentieth Century Fox’s upcoming Deadpool movie.



Created by Fabian Nicieza and Joe Madureira, Weasel has served as Deadpool’s friend, sidekick,
and arms dealer in the source material since his debut in 1993. He would later go on to be an
enemy of the Merc with a Mouth as the character “The House.”

Set to appear alongside Miller are Ryan Reynolds in the title role along with Ed Skrein,
Gina Carano, and Morena Baccarin. The film will also feature the mutant Colossus, though
Daniel Cudmore has confirmed he will not appear as the character.

It’s finally chimichanga time for 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise spinoff Deadpool, as production begins in Vancouver on the feature film starring Ryan Reynolds as the “merc with a mouth.” Hot on the heels of this morning’s reveal that T.J. Miller will be playing Weasel comes confirmation that Morena Baccarin will be playing “Vanessa,” who is almost certainly the comics’ Vanessa Geraldine Carlysle, also known as the shapeshifting mutant Copycat. Baccarin herself made the reveal via Twitter and the below image of her on-set chair back. Reynolds also posted an image of his own chair and you can also check it out below.

Created by Fabian Nicieza and Joe Madureira, Copycat made her comic book debut in the same issue as Deadpool, “New Mutants” #98, although fans didn’t know it at the time. The shapeshifting former love of Deadpool was secretly infiltrating X-Force disguised as Domino with a mission to kill the mutant team’s leader, Cable. It wasn’t until several years later, during Marvel’s “Flashback Month,” that Copycat’s full origin story was revealed in the pages of “Deadpool” #-1.

Also starring Ed Skrein and Gina Carano, Deadpool will also feature the mutant Colossus, though Daniel Cudmore has confirmed he will not appear as the character.

Tim Miller is set to direct the movie from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool is currently scheduled for a release on February 12, 2016.
