Only what I've heard and I don't know about you guys but it's not one that I'm eagerly wanting to watch, there's something about rape and eating poo that just puts me off a bit. I thought since it's on all our lists we could suffer together in solidarity. |

I took a Film and the Holocaust class in college and was delighted to see Salo on the syllabus, since I assumed I was the only person in the class who knew what it was and the horror that was going to be unleashed on the class (a lot of the class surprisingly weren't film students but were taking this as an elective).
To my dismay, the professor showed various clips of Salo (the poo eating, the eye gouging) but not the entire film. Nevertheless, people were PISSED. He also showed us Ilsa: She-Wolf of the S.S. which I found to be in far poorer taste than Salo, so not really sure what the fuck that guy's mindset was.

Let me know when we get to the Faces of Death round. Seen it. Not pleasant, but a lot of is staged (I believe...?) and I think the disgusting elements of A Serbian Film I've been described to by friends takes the cake for more revolting. |

Well, those are examples of the Holocaust on film... it's not always going to be good depictions of the Holocaust on film. I think they all were ready for rough viewings given the class, but even then for non-film people (and a largely Jewish demographic in the class) to out of nowhere watch parts of Salo and all of Ilsa was something none of them could've prepared themselves for. The professor is still laughing to this day, the bastard... |
