DVDs don't look so hot on modern TVs. Their quality didn't last very long, really. You mean 4K TV’s? DVD’s are still passable on 1080p. I don't think they very look good on any of my televisions. They are only 480p, after all.

My VHS copies have the same artwork.
But those are VHS, not laserdiscs. Big difference.

If you get the 2004 DVD, the LaserDisc version is on the bonus disc. The quality is so undesirable that people still complain about owning the original cut even though it’s “technically” available on DVD.

Theatrical? If not it’s another hard pass from me.

I suspect they're just repackages, probably should have just waited until Rise of Skywalker came out so they can make an ultimate boxed set.

Last month, the Academy of Arts & Science hosted a 70mm screening of Star Wars that was a 1981 print of the movie. Disney has the real deal in their position and word-on-the-street is that the 4K release might be what fans have been waiting for. This release is a collectors item for fans, giving the whole franchise a similar packaging. The 4K release will likely be the Skywalker Saga, meaning it excludes Rogue One and Solo.

I appreciate the common packaging, but I'm waiting for the theatricals before I buy more star wars. Right now I have all the movies in steelbook, and that's enough consistency for me.

I admit I own the trilogy set that has the "updated" versions...but only because I was impatient and wanted to re-watch them all back before TFA came out.

They should release the theatrical cuts on the Last Jedi disc, but they only unlock after you've watched Last Jedi fifty times. And even then you can only watch them once, then they lock up again.

The 2011 version of the trilogy is still widely available. I don't know if this is a simple repackaging or Disney is releasing the 1997/2004 versions on Blu-Ray. Turner Classic Movies aired the 2004 version in HD this summer. That raised some eyebrows.

I bought it too but only cause Target was selling it dirt cheap to get rid of their stock. This might have been before the steelbooks were released. With this new packaging on the way I'm sure stores doing it again.

The notorious changes to the 2011 Blu-Ray were: - Hiding R2D2 behind an extra layer of rocks - The Obi-Wan yell - Han & Greeto shoot at the same time - The cinematography is changed on Empire. Instead of the foggy aesthetic, the image is crisper and the colors are brighter. You’re a huge HDR fan so maybe you’ll dig that. - Jabba’s Palace is made bigger and more background characters added - The Ewoks blink - Darth Vader shouts “nooo” when killing Palpatine.
