Resolution One- Bring my weight down to 140 lbs. at minimum. (It's worth noting that I began my weight loss in August 2020 at 210 lbs.) Resolution Two- Serious exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes every day. Resolution Three- Watch at least one feature film every day. Resolution Four- Update this thread every Saturday.

I'm kind of toying with my resolution being creating videos or audio podcasts of some sort this year. Just something to do for fun. I got a microphone and some crappy recording software and I've been playing with it. We'll see what happens.
Anyone interested in listening to my garbage?

Oh trust me. Mine would be much, much worse than PG Cooper's. But I'd compensate by being hilariously incompetent at what I do.

It's cliche but I really need to get back in shape. I was probably in my peak physical condition when I was 26 or 27 and I don't think it would take a whole lot for me to trim down and drop a couple buckle loops. I just need to work it in and stay consistent. As docstop and Frizzo could attest to though, easier said than done when you have a couple kids floating around.

I'd actually started exercising regularly again this year, and lost 20 lbs (after hitting my heaviest weight ever), then when everything hit the fan, it became harder to find the time to exercise, and more importantly, it was super hard to stay motivated to do it.

Took the words out of my mouth. Same thing happened to me. Worked out via jogging and was super committed for about 2-3 months, lost 12 lbs and felt really good about myself and then, well, fill in the blanks with kids and we also lived for 2+ months at my in laws so I felt double responsible for watching the kids and not stressing anyone out. Just got back late November. I registered a long time ago for a Spartan race and seriously need to stop slacking. It's in June or July. The original one got cancelled in October due to Covid. Hoping this one doesn't get cancelled and I feel capable of doing my best there. And thanks to Wyld for getting this thread going.

We could probably wreck this thread on all the ways kids screw with our lives but since this is a movie message board I'll say this.
For any of you here who don't have kids but are planning on it one day, just take this one note. You know that 90 minute movie you've been meaning to see but you'll just plow through it when you get home from work while eating dinner? Well once you have kids get ready to split that 90 minute movie into 7 different segments to watch over the course of 2 or 3 days. Unless I go to the theater which I haven't in over a year it's pretty standard now to either split a movie up or wait until everyone is asleep and get through as much as I can before dozing off. You just gotta make it work any way you can.

This week's weigh-in is 174.2 lbs.
With only a day in the past week, I've managed to watch my one film and got the requisite thirty minutes of exercise.

Well I'm doing dry January, and would really like to get in better shape.), probably need to trim 10 to 15 lbs.
My work hours are often bad, and I compensate by drinking 3 times a week. When the weather was better, I was doing pretty well hiking on my off days, but I need to figure out something to do in the winter.
Any of you been back to a gym during the pandemic?

I used to go jogging for an hour on my days off, but I fell out of that habit after I moved last year. I should probably start up again.

Any of you been back to a gym during the pandemic? I actually haven't ever been, they are closed now for a month where I live. I'm going to start today to try and get a routine of stretching and pushups. I think its doable to try 5 sets of 10 pushups spaced throughput the day. 1 rep in now.

When the weather was better, I was doing pretty well hiking on my off days, but I need to figure out something to do in the winter. Any of you been back to a gym during the pandemic? I've never belonged to a gym. I take the dog for a long walk (60-90 minutes) every Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. At work, I step away from my desk at least once an hour (unless I'm tied up with something that can't wait), take the stairs down to the basement, and then walk up the entire stairway (seven floors). I've got a fan bike at home parked in front of the TV so I can exercise while watching something. Some free weights that I don't use as often as I should. I've lost thirty-five pounds so far without spending money on a gym membership. If all you're trying to do is lose weight, it doesn't seem necessary. Proper eating habits and basic exercise should be more than adequate just to drop 10-15 lbs. Stop frying food and start grilling it. You'll definitely need to stop drinking. I don't like tea or coffee, so I only drink water (and lots of it). I occasionally have one of those carbonated flavored waters that are 5 calories a bottle.

Over the years I've gathered a pretty decent weight collection, I've got 5-40 lbs. dumbbells and a pull-up bar which should take care of pretty much anything you want to work on. They aren't super cheap but for roughly the cost of a year's membership at a decent gym you can get some weights that will last you the rest of your life. I've convinced a couple other people to do the same and it's pretty nice when you can get a good, effective workout done in your own home instead of paying membership dues, driving there after work, waiting for a machine and having nothing but UFC on all the tvs.

I've had a bit of a wrench thrown into my plans very early. I've been sick since Thursday. I have managed to watch a movie every day so far, but I haven't weighed in since Wednesday. I didn't even think about it until just now, and it's too late in the day to get a decent reading anyway. I also tend to eat comfort food when ill. I did exercise for at least 30 minutes every day up until Thursday.
It's a rough start, but that isn't going to be an excuse to let it all go. I'm on the mend, and intend to get back to it on Monday.

Try to look at it as the accumulation of consistent effort over time so one or two missed days don't derail you. You'll get there and soon it will feel like part of the routine. 🙂

I've just been keeping quiet about it until now.

This week's weigh-in is 170.4 lbs. That's a loss of 3.8 lbs. from my last weigh-in two weeks ago. Despite being sick last week, my rate of weight loss doesn't appear to have been significantly impacted.
I did resume a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise per day. I usually get far more than this in every day, truth be told. What I'm trying to do is put in a full 30 minutes right before I go to bed. From what I've read, this is supposed to boost the metabolism and increase weight loss while sleeping. I started that back in December, and it does seem to be having a positive impact. I'd recommend it for anyone trying to lose a few.
I've continued to find the time for one movie every day, but I've had to search for a really short movie a couple of times.

This week's weigh-in is 168.4 lbs. That's a loss of exactly 2 lbs. from last week.
I tried a new exercise on Thursday that I saw on a website I frequent for tips on simple food and exercise options. I was in agony all day Friday, and it's not much better today. Apparently it calls for some leg muscles that get neglected by basic walking. I suppose I should keep at it, once I can try it again without crying out in pain.
I missed a day in my one movie per day resolution on Friday. I didn't have time to start until pretty late, and fell asleep after the first ten minutes. Still, 21 days is a good streak. Hopefully I can beat it going forward.

Forgot to update the thread yesterday after I weighed in, so let's just get into the Way-Back Machine for a second...
This week's weigh in is 166.9 lbs. That's a loss of 1.5 lbs. from last week.
I've managed to get in my minimum of thirty minutes of exercise every day, but I haven't always been able to do so right before bed as I prefer. As long as the weight keeps coming off though, I'm not going to worry about it too much.
Still not managing to get in a film every day. Part of the problem is that when I watch a movie, I really prefer to sit comfortably and dedicate all my focus to the film. I've got too much going on right now to be able to do that. I'm trying to adapt, and deal with whatever I'm working on while a movie is on. This isn't practical for every movie, but as long as I stick to things like MST3K movies, really old movies that are full of dialog discussing what's going on, and documentaries, I'm good.
