Netflix and Toho reteam for Anime Godzilla TV series, first Godzilla TV series since the American Godzilla: The Series (based on the 1998 Godzilla film) was cancelled in 2000.
The Godzilla anime trilogy didn't make much at the Japanese box office, but that's partially because they debuted on Netflix simultaneously and nobody wanted to pay money to see them. I guess that worked out for Netflix. Netflix also has had recent success with an anime series based on Ultraman, which has been renewed for a second season.
This series will not have ties to any continuity, even the previous anime films (which is smart, because those movies were balls). Only name of note I can see in the crew is animator Eiji Yamamori, who hails from Studio Ghibli.
Netflix weaseled their way into getting me to subscribe for another month. But as usual, I will breeze through and immediately cancel.
